Over here in the far west of Germany there remains a deeply ingrained awareness of a few things in this respect. On my part, my awareness comes from having lived for a couple of years in each of Köln and Berlin and having been based here near Trier for the last twenty years while on my travels employed in International Schools. I don't claim to have the whole story.
Overall and unlike say, the UK, there is a wish to look forward rather than backwards. With respect to the 1930s and 1940s a minority of people are prepared to talk quietly with trusted friends at the right time and in the right place. There is, of course, a great divide between those who were educated about the nation's 'common guilt' and those who weren't - that's generally speaking a Western/North Eastern divide apart from West Berlin. Meanwhile, the younger generations in the west in particular want to move forward as democratically inclined citizens who can be proud of their country's achievements including the economic miracle of the post war period.
The AFD supporters are generally recognised as being not very well educated, not very bright, 'chip on their shoulder' MAGA types who are being rabble roused by opportunists, just like in the USA and UK.
There's a general feeling that the good times are over though or as the locals say, 'vorbei'.

Not at all, I was told by German friends about the case and they despise AFD. I looked up the event in English, so it can be put up on here.

Here it says about no prison sentence and that he was on his way to being a good German citizen. It goes on to talk about other cases of German girls being raped, but not getting prison sentences.

I welcome the engagement but don't have time or the will for a deep conversation on this one.
I did look up the first source though which was the 'free speech union'. This was founded by a far right politician called Toby Young who has been allegedly widely discredited on eugenics, free schools, cocaine consumption, sexism, racism and homophobia. The second source is 'Bild' which is a complete and utter simplistic rag on the level of The Sun.
I might have time to look into this further as on the surface it looks bad as an action against both the alleged rapist and the accuser, but... thoughts for the 15 year old victim should come first.
By the way, I am not blind to the alleged actions of different sub groups resident in Germany, for example there was a scandal not so long ago about the behaviour of certain male groups around outdoor swimming pools in Trier with another one being the mass assault on New Year's Eve in front of the main railway station and the cathedral in Cologne.
There are though many people with an agenda and it's not always a civilised one aimed at human progress.

The story is common knowledge in Germany. I have now spoken to 5 different Germans. 3 are left or green and 2 are centre right. I have been told that the AFD have gained votes and are using this story politically. I have read about the story in 4 different media groups and have been told that AFD demonstrated about the case.
I am not sure how you think that the location of the crime, the town where the court case was held and the date could all be invented and yet no German media outlet denies the story. Surely if it was made up, major German news outlets would be all over it?

Here you have a translation from the court documents that were in the original story. Printing falsified Court documents in one of the Europe's biggest media outlets would mean serious consequences in German law.

I believe it because I have been told it by numerous people. As Bild did run with that story and is a huge German media company, if it were incorrect, it would have been countered by both other media outlets and politicians.
