Ruddy

Bennett Coady Saïss

Doherty Gibbs-White Dendoncker Vinagre

Traoré Cavaleiro Costa

SUBS: Norris, Neves, Moutinho, Jiménez, Jota, Giles, Jonny

Time to rest a few and give the likes of Gibbs-White, Vinagre & the 3 forwards a chance to impress. Shows our lack of depth at CB though, we need to bring someone in soon.

Wouldn't be unhappy with that team, possibly start Jonny for Doherty, Docs played a lot of minutes this season

Would certainly start Traore who must surely have way too much pace for their defenders.

Me neither, I’d like us to keep our key players out of the firing line, first half at least - we will be playing a very fired up and physical team, huge game for them. Wasn’t long ago they tried to kick us off the park in a preseason friendly. The potential for injury is quite high IMO.

Starts for MGW, Donk, Ruddy, Traore and probably Cav. Fill in the gaps with the others

I'd play Lycan's team. Would be tempted to play Watt instead of Donk, fine line on that one between getting him fit with games and knackering him for West Ham. He was blowing out of his arse the last 15 mins yesterday.

60 mins is probably fine for him, no travelling time and plenty of time for recovery. Playing two lightweight 18 year olds in CM is probably the easiest way to going and losing the game or getting a replay. It will be a less strenuous affair for all the players if we play a strong team and are 2-0 up at half time. Shrews will stop playing and we can turn it into training pace.

Agree with this, midfield of MGW and Watt is too lightweight as Shrews only tactic will be to bully and kick them up in the air.

If Coady was rested or - God forbid - injured, who would you see in that role? Donk? Saiss?

When this question was last asked I said Saiss, but the general view was Boly
(obviously not when suspended)

I would go strongish. Make the game dead by half time and then rest players for the West Ham encounter.

But Neves, Jota and co shouldn't be needed to get this one done.

Was talking to Deutsch yesterday - agreed that we aren't getting relegated so should really give this comp a serious go.

As strong as is sensible early on (and no we won't need every usual starter) & we can ease up once we have a sufficient margin

Probably still need to play the back 3 as not sure we have much beyond that apart from using the kids, which I wouldn't start with

Not that it would happen, but...

Ruddy
Bennett - Coady - Saiss
Doherty - Dendoncker - Gibbs-White - Vinagre
Cavaleiro - Ashley-Seal - Traore

Debated putting in Watt or Goncalves rather than Dendoncker but would hope they can get time off the bench (assuming we aren't bottling it).

Ashley-Seal is nothing like ready, even against a team like this

Costa hasn't been great, but would play him with Cav or Traore up the middle - he's at least been around for a bit (the two I wouldn't want to risk that much are Jota & Jiminez)

I'm not keen on playing Cav or Traore in the middle and we already know Leo has no future here, hence BAS who at least might have one.

Cav is capable of playing that role & does know where the net is

Yeah I think Cav would be ideal up the middle, plus he could do with a good run out after being a bit up and down recently...Ashley-Seal would be ok on the bench, maybe come on for 20 minutes if we are 3 up

No problem with Ashley Seal on the bench - there are a small number that you wouldn't want to risk given their importance to the team & lack of cover for a game that might well become very physical.

A pity that we probably can't change the back 3 around as not sure we have a lot below them

Kiliman perhaps? Nuno was happy enough to have him on the bench.

Giles should play imo.
