No doubt about the red for me, but it highlights a little inconsistency by tonight's referee. I really didn't see much mitigating either challenge, so thought the Samoan was VERY fortunate to get away with a yellow.
As O'Driscoll has just said there wasn't really much place for the Samoa 2 to go to, whereas the Ireland player could definitely have gone lower and lifted in to the tackle too.
They are going on about him bending his knees to try and keep lower, but he did then straighten them through the impact which made it look fairly bad. I think both were red for me.
Also, I should mention, on more viewings of the Ken Owens tip tackle against Fiji, I have absolutely NO idea how that isn't a red card. It made the 2011 Warburton tackle look like a friendly affair.
Bloody Alain Roland - may he rot in the eternal fires...
Seriously, Warburton wasn't unlucky. It was dim. Probably cost us the World Cup as we lost by 1 point with 14 men, and then France got within a point of the All Blacks in the final.
I think for the Samoan yellow, that a red would have been harsh as Stockdale dipped down for the collision, but I agree that Ken Owens should have been given a red for that spike tackle.
Tacklers will have to change tactics and lower their tackles in future. Get among the flying knees and boots while somebody else slows them down.
