Rugby World Cup Japan 2019

I beg to differ, 2 weeks rest in a tournament vs 1 weeks rest is a substantial advantage. To top it off Wales will have played 2 games in that week with one of them Fiji to boot

France will be a much tougher test now than if they had played England

I’m not sure. They had two substantial tests themselves and were fortunate to beat both Argentina and Tonga. It will be a decent game but Wales will rightfully start as favourites

Yes Welsh should easily beat them, they have the best draw and should be looking to be in the final.

South Africa worry me. Recent record against them is good, but it will be tough, assuming we get past the French of course.

Georgia doing very well against Australia. Only one score down after an hour.

FT Oz 27-8

Georgia ran out of steam and the Aussie replacements were better than Georgia's.

Sod em, let them play, forget conditions and safety etc, cause I'm sure they would have stuffed Japan

Scotland should be allowed a game the same as Japan.

WR could let the game be played anywhere in Japan. It would have to be played behind closed doors.

Hopefully, the weather will relent and allow the game between Japan and Scotland to take place.

If not, then Scotland will just have to accept their fate. They signed the participation agreement, the same as every other team. Why should they expect to be treated differently to everyone else?

To threaten World Rugby with legal action is embarrassing and disrespectful, IMO.

The participation agreement clearly states that cancelled pool games will not be re-arranged. And that is the end of it.

Hopefully they play and Japan absolutely fucking twat them. Even though I want Celtic nations to do well, the whinging from Scotland over this is annoying. If Ireland lose on Saturday I GUARANTEE that Scotland will suddenly want the game off when a draw puts them through but a defeat still eliminates them.

This is it, reason they’ll be eliminated is because of their almost drunk performance v Ireland. Where was the Scottish objection years ago knowing fully well what the weather conditions could possibly be.
Heard Brazil, MCcoist and White crying on talksport about it, trust me if this was happening to England everyone would find it hilarious.

It is a bit of a joke to:

1) arrange a tournament in a country with a known storm season
2) have it in that country within the known storm season
3) have no contingency plan in the event of storm.

I don’t really care. But it is a shambles and Scotland are rightly pissed off.

Thing is, if you base your views on the nonsense coming from those three you would think William Wallace was still alive and helping the Bruce invade London next week.

Oh - they were HURTING about the Scottish football team this morning. And rightly so. I would probably back Bath City to beat Scotland about now.

hmmmmm

This is right at the end of Typhoon season. Same as it is for Hurricanes in the Atlantic. It's a bugger. Perhaps you didn't want the 1994 World Cup games played in Miami in July that year? SLAP BANG in the middle of hurricane season that was.

How about the cricket world cup in the English summer which saw over twice as many matches binned, and those binnings cost Sri Lanka qualification?
They had a contingency. They got all the nations to sign the participation agreement that pool matches were off, and then stayed off. Everyone agreed. Fuck Scotland. Italy have accepted it. And Scotland are crying.

Was 3 for 1994 so not answer.

September isn’t really the end, it’s right in the thick of it, it’s just happened in October instead. But there should have been a contingency plan as there was a pretty high chance.

Cricket WC was in England’s theoretical dry season. They also had a format where the odd postponed game shouldn’t have made much of a difference. Sadly we had a pretty wet summer in a sport where you can’t play In any rain. It’s also an all day event which is difficult to rearrange when there is a tight schedule. The same doesn’t apply to rugby. Play in almost any weather, they can easily play it somewhere else or a Day late.

Cricket also has a contingency for the later games. Reserve day and that’s for a game that takes all day not 80 minutes.

The two are literally chalk and cheese. One is bad luck and a different format and tight scheduling. The other is poor planning and strange execution.

Of course people are correct that Scotland havent got a legal leg to stand on and will have to accept their fate.

But that doesnt mean its right (this is coming from someone whos team will possibly benefit most from the postponement), just because it happens in cricket doesnt mean it should happen hear, cricket is weather dependant game, on the rare occassion when 6n games are cancelled then they are played at a later date, also the circket had 9 group games these only have 4 Yep Scotland played crap against us, but its group stages so they are entitled to a second chance, the group format allows for a team to stink the place out and still qualify, that is being denied to Scotland and Italy for that matter.

As it is Parisse deserves better then denied having his final game v all blacks in the WC, he is right as well if NZ had lost to SA and were a point behind Italy coming into this weekend they would have found a way to play the game.

Its been poorly organised, I hope the Scots come out and win (dont think they will), its helps the tournament having the home team do well but the advantages Japan have had between picking what order thet wanted to play the other teams, gap between games, home town referring v us (still would have beaten us) & Somoa, and now a possible cancellation is taking the piss.

The thing is, whilst this weekend there aren't any other games for another week so postponing the match by a day seems a plausible solution, earlier in the tournament some games were only four days apart. Postponing one of those to have games three days apart would have not been viable. So they then sensibly applied the no postponement ruling over all pool games.
Also, this isn't just typhoon season, this is the strongest storm to make landfall in Japan for over 60 years, so not entirely an expected event.

It's a game of rugby FFS.

It matters not compared to what's going on around them. A violent, life-threatening unusual weather event that's claimed one life already is what's important to avoid or minimise the effect of.

No-one knows the longer lasting consequence of the storms on the country and its people, let alone the rest of the tournament.

I think Scotland need some perspective here and not just think about themselves.

Ireland get the early try they wanted and a binning for a Samoan.
