Rob Edwards - the prodigal son returns

Well I just had an interesting call with a customer at work who is good friends with, non-other than, Steve Gibson.

He told me that Gibson was (initially) completely caught off guard by RE wanting to take the job here. RE didn't speak to him for a couple of days while it was all breaking and then turned up to say he wanted out and he'd agreed to become boss here. Gibson owns a 5* hotel near the Middlesbrough training ground which RE had been staying in 6 nights a week. Gibson had all of Rob's belongings removed from his room and put into storage, to eventually be sent back to him. And he also gave Rob a £70k hotel bill...

During negotiations, Rob wanted his whole contract paid up, but Gibson refused and eventually they agreed on paying him to the end of this season, less the £70k hotel bill. Maybe not breaking news, but to say he left on bad terms would perhaps be an understatement.

Still find it hard to believe we went to so much trouble (and expense) to get this non-entity into the club. I get that Jeff had a hard on for Edwards for many years but still seems ridiculous. Had seen Boro fans saying back then that SG made RE pay his own hotel bill after he said he wanted to go. Not sure how he can demand his contract be paid up when he is doing the dirty on the club but then that's the crazy world of football where failure is rewarded

Bunch of prats of the first order. Similar games in my world of employment which is education.

"The supporters have been amazing considering how difficult it has been. I know the players have got to produce, but what I want as well is for the supporters to keep backing the team."

From the Villa presser, looks like he's been nudged to give the fans a mention

Only said that as Hwang is almost fit. Wants you all to be nice to him when he picks him

Not as hard to believe as trying to bring O'Neil back in! Shi clearly wasn't thinking straight during this period. Just a know-nothing bean counter all along.
