Revisiting old albums

ooh, Dexy's. Might have to revisit Searching for the Young Soul Rebels at some point.

One of my all time faves.

Played Pete Townshends 'Who Came First' for the first time in years last week. Some nice tracks on that. 'Sheraton Gibson' is one of my favourites. Nice acoustic guitar work.

Love anything Pete does but the line "I'm sittin' in the Sheraton Gibson playin' my Gibson" really used to grind on my nerves :)

Saxon - The Eagle Has Landed...Live

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8a8cutYP7foUtbjNfpPwaurg5pEGLnBh

Klassik (in true kerrang style) NWOBHM!

I loved saxon. I was late to the party, discovering them on the recommendation of a friend in the late 80's/early 90's. They were great fun live, and it shows on this disc.

The lyrics etc may be a bit cheesy, but at least it ain't manowar, with talk of loincloths etc.

Motorcycle man is a fun opener. 747 (strangers in the night) into princess of the night. Strong arm of the law follows with biffs intro, and then are you ready for heavy metal thunder? 20,000feet makes you wonder how many fucking songs these geezers wrote about aeroplanes, then wheels of steel (with a singalong natch). Never surrender has Biff almost on falsetto, then fire in the sky and machine gun close the album.
I had a guiklty smirk of for at least the first 8 tracks. Unlikely to be grabbed off the shelf again in the immediate future, but still a bit of fun.

It's a BRILLIANT live album. I was into Saxon from Strong Arm of the Law so most of the tracks are incredibly familiar to me. I have the extended version that has the entire show so you get Dallas 1PM and And the Bands Played On as well. Plus Hungry Years is on that version too, which is great.

747 is a classic track by the way.

every time I saw them, they were a solid live band. I enjoyed every gig of theirs I went to. Think solid ball of rock (or the tour before) was my initiation.

I keep meaning to catch them again. They so often play the Civic or the Slade Rooms. Seems to be at least twice a year.

I went to my first rock/metal gig about 4-5 years ago. I had forgotten how wonderful rock chicks are.

You're talking my language here

Listened to a few today ( still decorating) covering 3 different decades,
Started with Garbage: Version 2.0,
Then Extreme: Pornograffity,
Finished up back in the 70's with Santana's Abraxus.....gotta love some old school rock with a latin beat on a sunny afternoon

Is somebody dissing Manowar ????

First live gig I went to was Saxon at the civic, turned out to be quite an infamous gig,due to one of the mates I went with, died a few days later from brain bleeds caused by head banging!
Wasn't spinal tap based on Saxon?

Spinal Tap was a mixture of several bands (Ozzy thought it was a documentary)

Stonehenge bit was Sabbath. There are bits of Hawkwind in there too for sure.

late for timstwitter so doing deserters songs on my own

Bit of rockabilly based stuff for me this morning, Imelda May, Love Tattoo and Mayhem

Love a bit of Imelda.

I like the stuff when she was with her hubby, not so keen on the more recent stuff, a bit too soul/blues for me, nothing particularly wrong with it just think there people doing it better like Beth Hart

The Darkness - Permission To Land

I might be a closet The Darkness fan, who cares?

I loved this album when it came out in 2003. A lot of The Darkness' popularity in their early years was down to singles such as "I believe in a thing called love", "love is only a feeling" and "growing on me", but I actually loved the album tracks such as "Black Shuck", "Givin' up" and "Friday Night". I'm pleased to say these tracks sound as fresh today as they did when they first came out - the singles (which were hugely overplayed at the time) didn't grate as much either. I totally understand that Justin's voice isn't everyone's cup of tea. Strangely I never gave their follow up a chance (one way ticket to hell and back), but I stumbled across one of their newer singles called "In another life" a few weeks back and that's been stuck in my head ever since, so I have been enjoying their new album (Easter is Cancelled), so might well go back and give OWTTHAB a proper go eventually... 15 years too late.

Here's the new single with accompanying OTT music video in true Darkness style (Crouchie's mrs is the "angel"):
