Revisiting old albums

yeah, that's a classic of theirs. they do have a new album out as well which i've had a few listens to though while working so not very focused listens

Nirvana - Nevermind.

Not what you'd call an obscure choice. Grunge was a big thing for me at the end of the 80s, early 90s and I listened to this a lot but it's been a long time since I've heard it straight through. A couple of songs obviously super familiar and still get regular airplay but they're still awesome and the rest holds up brilliantly. It's still raucous, dark, melodic, punky and ultimately grungey. Still love it.

Mudhoney were better though.

I've debated a couple of nirvana albums as well!

on the trail theme, had worlds apart on earlier!

will you smile is particularly good :)

i don't have a physical copy of that album. next one i got after source tags was tao of the dead i think

The Thrills - Let's Bottle Bohemia

Absolutely loved So Much For The City, a fantastic summer album. So was looking forward to this.

Whatever Happened To Corey Haim is an absolute banger.

The rest is utter, total, unmitigated shite. I was so pissed off with wasting money on it. There's another one from the same era that fits exactly the same criteria but I'll save that for later.

He's awesome! wish he'd release something else, it has been too long.
I also assume I'll never see him live, as he only seems to tour the states or australia.
His shows are incredible. Starts out fully clothed and takes off one article for each "song". Just the most genuine party atmosphere.

Those are two damn good songs. Not heard the rest but that seemed to happen quite a lot with that sort of band - a couple of goodies and then bugger all else.

The whole first album is good man. Best to listen to it when it's 25 degrees rather than 10, like :)

But that album is one good song and nothing else. They only did one more album (about three years later, top promotion there) and I never bothered with it.

I'll take your word for it. Life is too short to investigate The Thrills any further. :)

I've annoyed myself by listening to it again today :icon_lol:

I think the other one is even worse on that scale. But that's for tomorrow!

my theory was always to look for great output from many bands rather than all or most stuff by a few.
within reason of course, i was hardly gonna listen to U2 or kajagoogoo

Here's one I listened to a few weeks back... OMD Architecture and Morality.

I loved OMD in their early '80s heyday. Wasn't so fond of the super poppy stuff they did later.

Three cracking pop singles on this in Souvenir, Joan of Arc and Maid of Orleans herald a move away from the more industrial synth stuff of earlier records (which I also love), but there's still plenty of experimental dirgey electronica buried in this one. I'm using dirgey as a compliment. This might have even played a part in me starting to love dissonant noise later in life.

OMD are an excellent band.

*Nods in agreement*

Had a lot of time for OMD, although not in a genre I was raving for at the time. Musically an excellent band and damn well written songs.

Today's blast from the past came from the Alan Parsons project. The greatest hits compilation took me back thirty years!

Still good today.
Turn of a friendly card
Ammonia Avenue
Games people play
Old and wise

All great tracks.

Todays doesn't have a youtube vid, so spotify only I'm afraid:

Space Monkeys - The daddy of them all

The cd is actually only the first 12 tracks. Loved this album when it came out. Listening back now, I really can't fathom why the love. It's ok, but a bit one trick pony. The finale being march of the scarecrows was supposed to be a majestic ending, but the memory of the album is definitely better than the reality.

Feeder - Echo Park

R-378896-1261825790.jpeg.jpg

Loved this album when it first came out and listened to it non-stop for months. Funnily enough, the two best known songs and singles "Buck Rogers" and "Seven Days In The Sun" have aged the worst. There are some lovely moments in there, though. "Turn" and Piece by Piece" are both fantastic tracks. I still have a lot of time for this album, but like most in here, it's mainly because I can place it alongside specific memories/times from my life/past.

Aye, still stands up pretty well. I prefer Comfort In Sound though.

Good shout. This was one I planned doing tbh. Comfort in Sound is a good album, and to be fair Pushing the Senses isn't bad either, though a lot of stuff felt generic after those 3 albums.
Always remember echo park having a "good side 2" :)
