Revisiting old albums

Great band to be fair. Not exactly my taste but impossible to ignore their quality.

saw the wonderstuff on the modern idiot tour and they were superb.
@Alan risks being dead to me. metallica imploaded after the black album imo. they never bettered master of puppets imo, and if you don't appreciate that, well...
on the green day chatter, like paddy, dookie would also be my fave.
slipknot are a fucking bag of wank.

The Black Album was the mistake. It's brilliant but I wish they hadnt gone commercial!

The last two Slipknot albums have been tremendous.

St. Anger hit me at a very particular time of my life. Basically, when I was at the peak of my depression just before recognizing it for what it was. Also I was like 16, so going through all of that with peak hormone shit to boot.

Which is to say, I wasn't in my right mind. Not sure if that excuses the number of times I spun that record, tho...

It was the Black Album that hooked me...which was its purpose I suppose, there's some great songs on there though and it drew me in to their earlier stuff.
St Anger was terrible

The Black Album will always be my favourite Metallica album as it was the first one I heard as I was just discovering rock music at the age of 13. To me it just sounded exactly like a rock album should. The production is superb. I agree that it is not necessarily their greatest, track wise, but to me the sound of it is what I love.

It’s a sell out. A brilliant, enduring sell out.
That was kind of the point of it though. It was supposed to be the biggest rock album ever made.

I guess if I’d been born earlier I may feel the same.

By the way, I like their latest stuff a lot too. Hardwired is a great album. The guitars sound awesome on it.

Hardwired was an absolute grower for me. Very regularly appears in the car CD player.

My first Metallica album was Lightning so I had six years of being spoiled as songs got longer and more complex. The more to the point and radio friendly style of the Black album grated a bit even though it was brilliant.

I used to absolutely love The Wildhearts when I was 14/15. I haven’t really listened to PHUQ as much as I should have since but it still stands up 27 (!) years later. Nita Nitro is a right tune.

I remember seeing them do I Wanna Go… on Top of the Pops when it came out. It’s not too often you got a song with ‘cunt’ in the lyrics on TOTP 🤣

Only saw them live once at the Civic, probably in 1994. What a great gig that was. I almost missed the last 256 bus home as they played for so long!

Some good Brit Rock bands around at that time, Wildhearts, Therapy? The Almighty, Terravision.
A band called Skin who we went to see loads..fantastic live band

The Almighty were magnificent live. Wild and Wonderful is still one of my fave tracks. Plus always a chance to see Vanessa Warwick watching her hubby.

Their set to open Donington 1992 was epic. It was available as a bonus CD on the expanded Powertrippin' album. Addiction was amazing that day. Heavy as fuck.

Fond memories of that time and the bands, we had kids fairly young so didn't really go to gigs in the 80's, the the mid 90's was when they were old enough to be left with baby sitters and we started going again.

And yes, the civic gig was 1994. I was there. Still wear the tshirt.

Powertrippin is their best album imo. Bought the cd for that bonus disc.
That was also a great gig. Pete freezin tore it up.

I was right at the front. Pissing down. Skid Row were great that day too, and obviously Maiden headlining were epic.
