REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

While I totally agree with the point being made, I think that image is incorrect. I've seen (what I think is) correct versions of it showing our figure as being 153.59. Still higher than the rest of Europe mind...
 
Yeah, we still have a fair bit of supply from the North Sea so would be very bizarre if it were that high.
 
France definitely have better domestic nuclear supply and Germany better domestic coal supply than we do.
 
I have a clue, 'current' electricity price means nothing - its an extremely variable spot market (can even get electricity for free at times). Average would be much more interesting.

Point stands though, doesn't it. We voluntarily removed ourselves from a market and we are worse off as a result, because amazingly it turns out you can't negotiate better deals on your own.
 
I actually think we are mostly still tied to the European spot market. Like we have no influence in its governance but we are still part of it.
 
A thought experiment:

Imagine that five years ago someone came up to you and said "press this button and in five years the NHS will be better, food will be cheaper, energy bills will fall, the economy will improve and Britain will have increased clout on the world stage". So you press it.

Five years later all the exact opposite has happened. Same guy says to you "press the button again to undo your error".

Would you stubbornly refuse to press it? Of course you fucking wouldn't. So quite why we still have Brexit fanatics when it's blatantly a catastrophe on multiple levels (and only going to get worse) is beyond me.

In other news, Fat Al now reckons that er actually yes, we are at the back of the queue for a US trade deal. Whoops, funnily enough I seem to remember some other fat cunt denying that would be the case.
 
I think brexit has become a type of cult (I said cult) where if you're in it the leader tells you you're safe here, it's ok, we'll be fine, everyone outside the compound can see its on fire and the cult members are in danger.
Five years on its just more entrenched beliefs on both sides, there's no middle ground to try and sort differences out, no one behind the scenes talking to the EU about how we made a huge mistake, we're sorry, and can we start talks about coming back, and yes if those talks involve joining schengen, the euro, having a smaller part than we used to so be it.
I think brexit has made the EU stronger, as the countries that were also talking about leaving( Greece, Italy? Hungary?) have realised they're better off in because they've seen how bad it'll be.
We may rejoin in 30-40 years doubt it'll be before that, just to teach us a lesson that the uk isn't the global power it thinks it is, or was during the days of empire
 
BP running out of fuel at its stations because of the supply chain crisis and asks for driver visa help to assist.

Just project fear though.
 
Government spokesman says there's not a problem and carry on as normal, if only we knew which side was telling the truth eh?

I'm convinced there is some sort of psychological urge where they actually want to suffer. The WW2 generation is rightly lauded for their stoicism, in comparison they feel inadequate so want to engineer a crisis for themselves.

A lot of the folk who lived through WW2 are dead now I'd imagine. It's the folk who came after who enjoyed the benefits of the Marshall Plan who I think want to go back to those times.

Absolutely, I saw a graphic years ago that showed how even though Brexiteers were mainly older, the people who'd actually lived through WW2 as adults were majority remain.
