REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

It's a stupid idea. It should be cancelled for the good of the country. There are zero tangible benefits to Brexit, "because we want to" might be fine for Billie Piper but it's not good enough for a first world nation.

Let's hand the public a referendum on the death penalty, such is the level of gammon froth and appalling levels of knowledge that they'd probably vote to reintroduce it. But clearly it would be a ridiculous decision to take.

As for pointless democracy, all we've had from the Government for the last few years is whining that they don't have a majority which means they can't do whatever they want. They don't have a majority because the public don't trust them in sufficient measure to have that power.

But the remain vote will be out as well. You do realise that don’t you?

They will. Remain votes won landslides in the three remain regions about20% up on leave. Marginal labour wins in leave areas would be the best targets for blues to overturn. I still can’t see many labour leave voters voting Tory but I can see them voting Brexit. That’s a small subtle difference and it’s where I think the balance will be. Remain lost 52 48 but in remain areas their margin was a lot bigger 60 40 or better. It does not matter then if that goes 70 30 or 80 20 the result stays the same.

There won’t be a lib-lab pact at the polls. There might have to be afterward but we’ll see.

I think you are completely wrong on Sturgeon. She will call for Indyref2 and if she gets it she will win it comfortably.

The maths don’t add up for Scotland to leave the union and keep their benefits of free education and prescription. 33% tax hike for the whole of Scotland. Good luck selling that jimmy krankie

They spelled out what LEAVE entailed and have failed to deliver it because Westminster is not aligned with the public vote. In YOUR opinion there are zero tangiable benefits to Brexit. The death penalty is almost apolitical in it's persuasion and thankfully no political farce has the mandate to impose moral and ethical values (just yet).

I might agree if they had developed a European wide minimum wage etc etc etc etc As a tool for social cohesion, justice and economic vibrancy across Europe it has been a fucking disaster - see Greece, Spain and a whole host of other countries for details.

These things take time. The EU is walking towards a Federation state. While at first it was a bullet train, which was stopped in 2010, it is still going in that direction. Slowly but surely.

When it happens I will vote back in ... it won't happen because the polarisation of Europe gets a few people seriously rich.

Better not reverse the 1975 referendum then...

Which, for the umpteenth time of telling people , was for the common market and the eec not the federal states of the eu . Stop rewriting history. Plenty of leave voters supported the eec and common market but not the current iteration and direction.

She's no Bille Piper that's for sure but there is many who would pipe her Billy given the chance.

My fear is that so many people leavers and remainers are so pissed off with the whole Brexit/parliament bollocks every week that a lot will just think "fuck it, vote for Boris at least he will put a stop to it"

Excellent point that I complexly agree with and is being either missed or ignored

Exactly that has happened in Mansfield and Bolsover in recent elections, proper Labour heartlands built on mining but also some of the strongest pro-Brexit votes in the country, the latter has outweighed the former in Mansfield and the Labour majority been slashed in Bolsover too.

They care more about Brexit than anything else now by the looks of things.

The beast is an ardent Brexiteer though.

It isn’t true, that’s why. Plenty of Leavers think that, but very very few remainders think that at all.

As somebody explained earlier you cannot compare our relationship 1975 with that of 2020. You are bidding on a different horse.

Is it, or is it not reversing the democratic decision to join from 1975? Yes or no?

Personally I have hated the division in this country and will never forgive Cameron for causing it and labour for being the weakest opposition in history. I hope Diane Abbott JC Bercow and about 20 others are consigned to a political scrap heap at the earliest opportunity closely followed by any other self serving mp. Then when it’s all done we can get back to looking after the interests of the U.K. and it’s citizens rather than constant sniping and point scoring that is all that this dead parliament has been able to do.

Yet he's still lost a shit load of votes to the Tory candidate over the last two elections despite virtually every town in his constituency being from mining heritage. Big Den might be Brexity as fuck, the useless old cunt, but his party as a whole doesn't convince in the same way as the Tories that it's the direction they want to follow, might be the first time Labour lose that seat this time around.

The beast is one of the most credible, intelligent and honest men to hit Westminster. Up there with George Galloway and Dave Nellist.
