REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

Leaving aside whether you voted in or out, the people were offered a choice by the politicians to stay in the EU or leave, the majority voted to leave, the politicians through incompetence, lack of bottle or just plain lack of will have failed to deliver it, in fact worse than that we appear to be heading for the worst of both worlds, so maybe the brexiteers have a point about being let down

I went into the butchers the other day and asked for a unicorn steak. He said they don't exist in the real world. I felt let down as I'd seen a unicorn on telly and people told me on the TV it was possible to get one someday.

Turns out they were liars.

Did you type that with a straight face ? You sound like a PR man who's master has done something particularly stupid and you have to now 'make things right' :)

If you honestly believe the man voted Leave then we can't have a serious conversation. He's also an anti-semite you know.

The irony is how far my stance has changed in the last three years yet people choose not to see it. I was often trying to put my side on here and much of what you feared would happen , has. I completely concede that its a bigger mess than I thought it would be, but constantly highlighting a number of myopic mindless brexiters who clearly have an agenda far to the right of where I have ever been and lumping all people who voted brexit into a bracket that they are racist, over 65 , mindless or all three quite frankly is boring.
So I invite you once again to detail your options for progress. Mine I will gladly remind you were around

1. Extend article 50. Its a must
2. No hard border. Its a must
3 continued part of a customs union by default.

My preference has been for a soft brexit. It remains that. Baby and bath water. It will mean give and take with the EU.

Yours?

That's the best progress we can come up with in 3 pages? I repeats my post as conveniently you lot choose to ignore my change of position and compromise. I am a realist. Both sides have to give. But this continued stance of just remain cannot and won't just happen. There has to be a deal or chaos. If the EU won't deal then its chaos and that's chaos for them too. Common sense is devoid from far too many in politics world wide I am afraid.

There is no middle ground though. EU won’t agree a deal that parliament will agree and parliament won’t agree a deal that the EU agree. It’s either no deal or no Brexit.

Given his history, I don't think it's really much of a stretch. What he actually voted for is a moot point, it's what he actually believes in. In the days before leavers and remainers we had Euro Sceptics he was undoubtedly one of those.

To address your glib point at the bottom, no he isn't, but has a number of people within his Party who do cross the line between being anti Israel and making anti Semitic comments which he does little or nothing to condemn. Have a look at the letter I posted on the Corbyn thread written by the Jewish Leadership Council to Chris Williamson by way of an example.

Not entirely true, there would be a majority in parliament for staying in customs union and EU would go for that too.

Labour don't want the EU customs union though. They want a bespoke CU with freedoms the EU will never grant. Labours brexit vision is as unachievable as May's.

Be a lot more chaos for us than the EU. It's the belief that they have as much to lose as we do that has put us in this mess.

There's more than enough labour MPs who would vote for it for it to pass though.

What's also missed is this is not permanent, it's a transition agreement to allow a full trade agreement to be reached. I would imagine labour would go for standard customs union while bespoke is argued about

May will never call a second vote and she's not going to agree to Labour's proposals. My concern is that fear of no deal will cause some Blairites to panic and end up voting for May's deal.
IMO we're heading for a GE though...

Huh, thats not really the point is it? are you saying its impossible to leave? Whether you or I think its the right thing to do, it is possible to leave, it might terrible but thats what people voted for. My point is the politicians, all of them, have been really poor......British politics is broke and I can't see it being mended any time soon......maybe democracy is a 'Unicorn Steak' after all, perhaps people of a certain IQ shouldn't be allowed to vote........

May should have been the unity PM she claimed to be and respect the fact that the vote was really tight. She should have worked with Labour/SNP to see what could be achieved before going to the EU. Instead we've had a hardcore Tory brexit led by a small group of nutty MPs.

Agreed.....they are all shit, I've no idea who I will vote for in the future, maybe no-one which goes against the grain for me

I can't remember who it was now, but somebody on twitter noticed that Kawczynski's tweet was getting ridiculous amounts of likes and retweets from fake/bot accounts to promote it.

I am sure this is completely unrelated to the MP's previous links to Russia...

His response to people correcting him on Twitter has by and large been "you need to get out more, you dork". Bellend.
