REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

I'm actually more pissed off at Labour for not bothering to even try to land a knockout blow, while the government has spent the last few months furiously punching itself in the face. FFS they should be having a bastard field day

I've just read the Road Haulage and Passenger Transport. What actually is it?

Not sure I'll bother reading the Construction one...

I've read the consumer goods one and I think they're an excellent way to show why Brexit is a total waste of time but only after you've found the correct source they've copied the data from.

I have absolutely no idea why the official opposition aren't ripping these reports apart and demanding a 2nd referendum.

Because too many Labour supporters mistakenly blame the EU for the fact that their wages are shit. Corbyn is scared that by fighting Brexit he'll lose those votes. He reasons that remainers within his support have nowhere else to go.

Agree that Labour are completely failing on this score. They seem to have absolutely no clue what position to take beyond hoping for the government to mess up. I think they're basically terrified of upsetting the people who voted to leave but know they need to appeal to remain voters and so they're paralysed.
It would help if they were landing any significant blows on the many non-Brexit failings of this appalling government but they can't do that either.

Labour should be working hard with the Unions in heavily pro Brexit areas to illustrate why it's these same areas which will be damaged hardest by it's impact. Instead Corbyn is just standing at the side watching the Tories plough headlong towards economic chaos and crisis because politically it does him more good. The man of the people didn't take long to become more interested in the few rather than the many.

Recent polling has shown that of those who voted Brexit, very few have changed their mind, indeed it looks like their opinion is hardening. It is those who didn't vote who have pushed remain into the lead in opinion polls.

The potential negative impact of Brexit is widely known, the government's woes the same - it had made little difference to people's opinions. The unions are not all ardent remainers so there is no consensus there either.

Politically, Brexit is a shit storm and the only thing that would happen to Labour if they adopted one position strongly over another is they would be riven by the sort of problems the Tories have or become politically irrelevant like the Lib Dems.

There is no knock out blow to be had, the Tories will either self destruct on the back of their own failings or they will escape with a last round knock out of a Brexit deal, there is no middle ground. Labour's best hope of doing something about Brexit is by being in power, not by being in opposition.

I can't wait for the unlimited visa free travel and endless job opportunities in the UK the blue passport will give me

But by then it will be too late - all the good things in Labours manifesto will be rendered unaffordable by Brexit.

You can have Brexit, or you can have investment in public services. Not both.

For the Tories thats not a problem - they werent going to invest anyway. But for Labour to not acknowledge it is political fraud.

Maybe that's the play they're going for?

Conservatives shoot themselves in the foot with Brexit and hand power to Labour, they can then continue to use Brexit and it's consequences to cover any issues they have for a good few years after.

It's worked out well the other way round for blaming everything on the financial crash.

Which would be the possible choice put to the electorate at a general election. You want Brexit on the terms negotiated by the Tories, vote Conservative. You want something else, vote Labour. The negotiations are going to lead to no deal - I think this would likely mean an election as it won’t command parliamentary support. A bad deal...or a deal the DUP won’t support...also leading to an election.

At an election, Labour can put forward an alternative for scrutiny. The last manifesto did not require Brexit albeit remaining in the EU might pose some issues.

Remaining doesn't pose any issues.

It poses huge issues and to think otherwise is naive. You may think remaining is the best for the country but there would be significant ramifications of overturning the referendum without a democratic mandate to do so at this stage.

Loving the idea this morning from Greg Hands and Liam Fox that we should join the Trans-Pacific Partnership after Brexit. What brilliant minds to come up with the plan to leave an enormous trading bloc right on our doorstep, only to sign up to a smaller one, a long way away, which will come with its own set of rules and regs.

I'd say you couldn't make this shit up, but it's clear that's exactly what the government is doing on an almost hourly basis.

Roll fucking eyes.

Great news, all the dickhead racists(not tarring any brexiteers on here with that brush, just generalising for "comic" effect) will be able to drink pints with a crown on whIle staring lovingly at their blue passports, probably while spitfires fly overhead towing the Union Jack

Exactly. 2/3rds is the future. Less but better.
