REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

GDP needs to be split into sectors to see the real picture. Poor retail is the main contributor due to people listening to the press and worrying about Brexit. Why the BoE thought it was a good idea to put up interest rates when retail is slow is beyond me.
Or perhaps they aren't spending the money they don't have?

Wages are not increasing, can we nip that one in the bud right now.

Private sector was 4.5% in 2017.

Unemployment is low because people are forced to take whatever work they can under the punitive benefits system this lot have brought in. Someone who works 10 hours a week on an as and when basis at Sports Direct isn't unemployed, neither is someone who drives a van taking Amazon parcels for a pittance, undercutting each other and making next to nothing

It’s difficult to find staff for full time jobs.

If we control our own borders shouldn't we need to control our own energy and infrastructure to ensure that we can't be held to ransom by foreign owned companies?

Alternatively if you have a robust tender system you get the companies to pay for the infrastructure too. Who cares where the profit goes as the best bid will win and provide an infrastructure worthy of innovation. The public purse benefits by not paying to keep up with infrastructure, wages and pension costs. Win, win for me.

I'm not an employer, you are so I can't argue with your first hand experience, but I do know of people who I do know who are really struggling who have either gone self employed or work on zero hour contracts

I’m sure there are, but they do have options.

Virtually everyone I speak to and a lot are at senior level in big companies are struggling to find staff. Admittedly some of people that is down to skills shortage, but not all.

It took me nearly 9 months to find someone to look after our stores and we were offering £9 per hour.

It’s also having an impact on GDP as companies aren’t as productive as they would be if they had a full compliment of staff.

like EDF on Hinkley?

the infrastructure in energy installed by the Nat Grid is meant to be regulated, but given its gas division was valued at 60% greater than its regulatory asset base (for sale to a hedge fund), it's pretty clear that it must be significantly over performing in cash terms in comparison to the "alleged" regulatory return. so no doubt who's winning the battle between business and regulator.

Part of a group looking into this absolute lunacy.

In other news, there are no assessment reports on the impact of no deal. They haven't done them. There's nothing.

....and has he just admitted this to the select committee?

Joanna Cherry QC MP

@joannaccherry
The evidence of @DavidDavisMP to @CommonsEUexit just now re non existence of #brexit #impactassessments would appear to directly contradict what he & other UK Govt ministers have previously told Commons committees. This is pretty serious

So @DavidDavisMP has just told the Brexit Select Committee @CommonsEUexit that no impact assessments exist. I repeat. UK Govt has carried out no impact assessments re economic effects of #Brexit

David Lammy via Twitter said:
David Davis written statement to Parliament 7 November: "The sectoral analysis is a wide mix of qualitative and quantitative analysis contained in a range of documents"

David Davis today: No impact assessments have been done on the impact of Brexit on UK economy

Rees-Mogg is claiming the government have gone above and beyond what the Commons wanted, as they have produced something that doesn't actually exist! They really are bunch of chancers, bumbling their way to disaster for the country.

Fuck me this government are a shambles.

But Corbyn!

Sadly Del that is true. His economics are worse than a bunch of bumbling idiots lying about reports. That is not an excuse for said liars before anybody jumps on that.

David Lammys thread on his twitter is fucking damning.

David Davis has probably not done the Brexit cause a huge bundle of good this morning. First, his frank admission that no impact assessments have been completed will inevitably be seized on by critics to argue Team May simply haven't done the basic spadework.
Second his suggestion that he doesn't have the resources for this, and anyway some of the work his officials have done wasn't much good, is hardly a ringing endorsement of his Brexit department.
Third, Mr Davis probably didn't help his own reputation by telling the committee he had been handed two chapters of the 850 pages of analysis but hadn't read them. At times Mr Davis even chided the committee over the time they were taking.
Fair enough the Brexit secretary had a cold - but at times he sounded thoroughly frazzled and cheesed off. Not a great look.

He's essentially admitted misleading parliament. He has to be held accountable for this.

Is Davis saying there are no reports because they really haven't done any or have they done them and the results are so bad that it is better to pretend that there weren't any in the first place?

Corbyn missed an open goal at PMQ's with all that has been going on this week regarding Brexit. Some real meaty stuff to be challenging May on and he let her off very gently imo

This is the bit I don't understand. He says there aren't any reports but then admits there is an 850pg document of which he hasn't read any of it.
