REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

Making things up again? You really should avoid trying to second guess what other people are thinking and concentrate on your own contributions.

I asked a question, I didn't make a statement. You can't make something up by asking a question.
If you are going to be judgemental, get for facts right. Maybe you should get your facts right, before you stick your nose in to something.

Vis made a statement only criticising the UK goverment, with no mention of the Spanish and the EU contributions to trying to get political gain over Gibraltar.
Because he never mentioned their contribution and was quick to mention the UK, it was a legitimate question.

If you say so. I am confident that there was plenty of inference in your "question" as you so ably demonstrated in your subsequent clarification.

And of course the Mail have played no part whatsoever in Britain becoming like this.

You think we should go to war with Spain then?

I guess this would have happened even if we had voted remain.
No way of knowing obviously and maybe it doesn't belong on this thread, but the Mail is at the forefront of the hatred, misinformation and xenophobia which has given the fuel for these kind of acts. They amongst others have created a country where people believe that such things are acceptable, whilst we fight to regain our country. Today they are outraged yet within a week they will run another headline about health tourism or foreign benefit claimants of some sort.

No of course not. My point is that Vis's statement, because of his pro EU bias, is quick to jump in against the UK, but forgets to mention that is Spain's and the EU's, meddling that is enticing this argument.

So its OK to go to war with another NATO member because they started it?

I think you are slightly missing the point. There are ways and there are ways to deal with Madrid on this. Invoking memories of the Falklands is a pretty crass one at best, and is clearly sabre-rattling and a veiled war threat. Just tell them Gibraltar is not part of any discussion.

You're one hundred percent correct.

They (along with the usual suspects) pedalled all kinds of hate about refugees in the days before and then lead with "tiny victim of a human catastrophe" when that little lad was found dead on the coastline.

They cultivate the conditions in which David Cameron/May could be so apathetic towards them we withdraw HMS Bulwark/refuse to help their children and then post stories like these in which they appear sympathetic to their plight.

I agree with most of that, however Spain and the EU didn't need to be antagonistic in the first place.

Well of course not. But that was a DRAFT negotiation document that was leaked. If we simply say that is NOT ON THE TABLE, it can easily be amended.

Going on about the bloody Falklands is ridiculous.

Perhaps it was mere coincidence that the 35th 'anniversay' of the Falklands was yesterday. A timely reminder of how we won't be intimidated by johnny foreigner.
