REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

That number would also include people who tell themselves and others that they are not racist, who's arguments then always come back around to immigration and brown people.

My Utopia starts today. Fuck the EU, we are getting our country back. The EU is like a sect, you have been brainwashed to love them and dislike your family. Soon you will realise that the sect (EU) didn't love you at all, they just wanted your money, it was your family ( Great Britain) that really loves you. Today is the start of freedom day.

Surely, after everything that has come out since the vote, you still can't think that leaving is the best solution for the UK as a whole?

I don't think it's the doom and gloom that some will have you believe, but it's certainly not the best solution.

So more great anecdotes of why people voted leave:

There are no public toilets in one of the market towns in Wales.

There are less Motorcyclists on the roads

This is the problem on here. People complain that questions don't get answered.
I have tried to give reasons why I voted Leave, via an article from someone who I agreed with and you just refer to them as 'anecdotes'

Is it not the case that, because you voted to Remain, that you will always find a way to dismiss the opinions of any Leave voters ?

My response had nothing to do with your post and your article, it was posted independently after listening to the radio this morning and those were reasons other people based their leave vote upon.

You forgot to mention Hitler. For people like you, when we talk about Immigration, he always finds his way into your rationale.

"Listen, if you want to discuss your concerns about Immigration, you are clearly a racist bastard and Hitler would be proud of you".

Fair enough but I would still like to ask you the same question.

Even without blaming this on the EU it just makes no sense to me, how exactly does the number of motorcyclists impact on anyone's life?

During the run up to the Referendum, I looked at various sources / people, with various opinions.

I didn't find anything from John Longworth at the time. DW may have reminded us about him previously as he sometimes writes for The Guardian ?

So this article should give you at least 'the five' you were after. He can certainly articulate them far better than I.

He also wrote this one a couple of months before the Referendum.

Interesting that he says the business community was split 50:50 on Remain / Leave.

Massive trade deficit with Europe and a trade surplus with the rest of the world.

Remain supporters can of course pick holes in his opinions.

But, surely none of us can give any 'facts' about how things will definitely turn out.

But because I agree with his comments then perhaps I see a brighter future in the UK ?

OK, so thats your basis for your five predictions - you just need to boil them down to something concrete. Off you go.

Whoa there! I haven't seen anyone bring up Hitler anywhere on this thread.

Where has this been said by anyone on here?

No not at all, whilst I didn't vote for or agree with Brexit, I have accepted that it is happening and will deal with whatever consequences and (hopefully) benefits are thrown my way as a result.

However I find it somewhat irresponsible when listening to the media coverage of it when you hear a man in South Wales saying he voted Brexit because nobody shops at his local market anymore, and that the public toilets don't work and that it is the fault of the EU - he was also the same person that said "We won, you lost. Get over it". Is that really a helpful way to go about things? Should the £16+ million really just "get over it" or should their concerns be considered as part of the negotiations also?

I keep hearing on the radio people's reasons for voting Brexit and a lot of the time they are local or national issues that should be better handled by the government and not as a result of the EU and it's mightily frustrating.

He makes some good points. The possibility of free trade deals are there now but do you trust this government to get them? We had more power in the EU that is an undisputed fact and now we have less so I'm struggling to see why China, USA or any of the BRIC countries will want to have free trade without the movement of people/ easy visa opportunities.

It will be interesting to see how Brexiteers react when we sign a movement of people deal with the BRIC countries, more brown people for them to moan about taking their jobs (or in Papper's case, to force people into work).

We could go for an EU type deal with commonwealth countries but again, I'm not sure if that's any better than being in the EU.

He runs a motorcycle group/association.

I'm guessing this has impacted on his membership numbers & therefore income?

Well, yes. But its a negotiation. All of the discussed things could happen - if we're prepared to make concessions to get them. But when you have May saying she'd prefer no deal to a bad one it rather casts into doubt the governments willingness to compromise. Add in a healthy dose of jingoistic 'Johnny Foreigner will bow before us because we're GREAT Britain' and im skeptical.....

I agree with you, I'm just not sure this isn't a case of 'grass is greener'. It strikes me as though the people that voted Brexit are those that think the UK is still relevant in an empire type way and are refusing to accept the simple fact that if we need to keep our place at the top table of the world then we have to make concessions and one of those is accepting other nations are as important as us.

You mean like the guy I heard yesterday who said we haven't "been the same country since we gave them India back"

You are Nigel Farage and I win ten pounds.

Yeah, I heard that too. Ridiculous, but unfortunately typical of some of the mindset. The same sort who states 'You would have thought that we lost the war'.

Yes, but thank yourself lucky, you won't be paying for the mass corruption of southern Europe anymore.

Can't say as I've ever seen Paddy complain about this.

Nice attitude to have there though, we've tried to help you but it didn't work out so now we're going to fuck off and leave you to it. Strange how you have that approach to the country in which you reside but you're willing to heaven and earth in some misguided attempt to help people in the country you abandoned.

I'd guess the declining membership has far more to do with the organiser than the EU but as my man above has shown, you can blame anything you like on the EU if it's happened during their tenure.
