REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

Fuck me, he can even de-rail this whilst banned....................................................

Its anecdotal, but I went out for dinner last night with a friend who is in the IT recruitment business - high end devs in the financial services sector - the sort of guys who earn 6 figures... Apparently the number of EU nationals applying has plummeted since Brexit - the concern is that the jobs are only going to end up being shipped back to Paris/Frankfurt anyway. Plus the drop in the value of the pound means it isnt as lucrative any more.

On anecdotal side of things, have just returned from a meeting held by Chief Exec of the company I work for. Part way through he started going off on this rant against Tim Martin (Wetherspoons chief, appeared on live TV debates pro-Brexit) as Tim is moaning about the price of wine from Europe increasing due to the pound, and how he'd backed Brexit so
now shouldn't moan. Had this big kick-off on Brexit for around 5 minutes before calmly returning to subject he was discussing

While I don't agree with THM's ban (not that it is my place to judge, that's up to the forum mods) I can see why he was banned.

This thread has had to be closed on many occasions with THM being involved pretty much every time it was closed. The current affairs sub forum was created with a massive warning to anyone that posts on it that they would be banned from the sub forum if they couldn't offer anything constructive or post in an appropriate manner.

It's not his political beliefs that cause the issues, it's his posting style. All he had to do was offer some evidence for his claims but despite the fact that he could post "link after link for the rest of his life" he chose not to. All this victim/conspiracy nonsense is a crock of shit.

You're right, it's got fu*k all to do with victim / conspiracy crap. That's just a throwaway comment that some use as a 'put-down' to ridicule a contributor to these pages.

So now it's about someone's 'posting style' ? If THM had voted Remain and loved the EU, or if you had similar political beliefs, would you still be irritated by his posting style ?

As this Thread is disproportionately representative of the Referendum result, maybe we should put a one-time-only post on the main Wolves Forum page to explain the situation to them ? After all, over 60% of people in Wolverhampton voted to Leave. This may encourage more to come on here to give the thread some balance.

Interesting how so many Remain voters commenting on this article (and others in The Guardian involving Tim Martin) seem to hold the working class in so much contempt. I mean, what sort of person would want to eat and drink in a Wetherspoons pub anyway ?

Are these the views of most Remain voters, or just Remain voters that read The Guardian ?

You are being willfully ignorant on a THM scale. Go and read/ contribute to the admin thread if you want to defend your hero. Do you actually have anything to say about the referendum itself? Like maybe a plan? Or is it all about immigration for you?

What do you think about the CEO of Wetherspoons being pro-Brexit but now complaining his wine prices are going up due to the uncertainty created by Brexit?

Do you have anything to add on the economic side of things? Can you provide any evidence, in the absence of your Sir Gallahad, of the Guardian printing propaganda (the reason he was banned)?

the mods/admin give up their free time & skills to deal with this.
Personally, if I had my way, he'd have been gone months/years ago. But I don't make the rules. I'm in someone else's home, so I try to have the manners & respect to abide by their rules. I am sure I sometimes fall short. Others (imo) repeatedly and consistently fall short. I wonder whether it is accidental, or deliberate.

Best way of looking at the "style" is the phenomenally overwhelming amount of obfuscation that occurs ruins genuine debates and discussions. When he had a self imposed holiday, cyber & paddy put forward some well interesting ideas regarding tax issues for example. For a few days, things were interesting again.

Until the working class have learnt the correct pronunciation of the word "quinoa", I really don't think we need to take their worries seriously, dahling.

Yes.

I don't know if it's the view of most remain voters. I don't know if it's the view of remain voters who read the Guardian. I can tell you that I voted remain and I don't have any contempt for the working class. I wouldn't make generalisations about groups of people like others on here.

Any chance of you answering the question on what your concerns around immigration are? You never got round to it the other night despite being asked by numerous posters.

Yeah. Also:

Maybe we could call it 'Freedom of Movement'?

His company couldn't afford to put the brakes on immigration

Ha ! I like that Johnny. You amuse me x Did you find the bit where I said 'low paid jobs' yet?

Here's your quote Papper, and maybe I have been overly polite in terms of low paid jobs as you mention it is jobs nobody wants, for me that is low paid work. I have split your quote up and rather than focusing on one little piece lets get your explanation(s) for all of it as I genuinely have no clue what you are on about and to further the debate it would be good to get answers.

The hierachy will still exist and the incentive to make money is still there.
What hierarchy?

You will always fill the jobs that nobody wants to do (you can't force anybody to work anyway) because there would be an open door immigration policy.
Why do you keep mentioning the part in bold? Would you want to force people into work? And why would immigrants take jobs nobody else wants to do? Surely as receivers of UI they would not want to do the jobs either (under your assumption).

It's not communism if the system is still capitalistic in nature.
How is a Universal Income capitalist?

The motivation in itself is better type of work, to lead rather than follow etc.
This really doesn't make anysense at all, in fact I'm not even sure it isn't just a collection of words. Can you explain the bit in bold please.

Focusing on the words 'low paid' will prove my point about elephants quite succinctly.

The £ v EURO is roughly the same as what is was in 2013/14 when Witherspoon posted pre-tax profits of £36M.

What hierarchy?

Pay is commensurate with levels of skills and expertise. People will still earn more than the basic income. (if they want to)

Why do you keep mentioning the part in bold? Would you want to force people into work? And why would immigrants take jobs nobody else wants to do? Surely as receivers of UI they would not want to do the jobs either (under your assumption).

I advocated a minimum income of £30K (just a throwaway figure open to debate) for ALL regardless of whether they work or not. As you said people cannot be forced into work if they don't want to so why bother? Chances are taking them out of poverty would I believe incentivise them to contribute in some way? Basically I was agreeing with you there. If there is still a shortage of labour then an open door immigration policy would still fill those gaps. I didn't mention low paid.

How is a Universal Income capitalist?

It isn't but it fits into a Capitalistic system as I wasn't advocating everybody gets paid the same salary - hence my use of the word 'hierarchy'

So? Tell Tim Martin this then, he is the one moaning about increase in wine prices.

Isn't your idea for UI that if you work and earn less than £30k your wages would be topped up, and if you don't work you get £30k? Everyone gets £30k minimum?
