REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

I thought Cameron said that if we voted to Leave, we would have to leave the single market ?

Conservative 2015 election manifesto said that they would be staying in the single market (hence why people are saying May doesn't have a mandate for what she is proposing and doing)

Vote Leave regularly said before the referendum that they didn't want to leave the single market, and wanted a deal similar to Norway's

So given that we are Leaving the EU, what's the alternative ?

You come up with a plan.

I asked numerous times what Leaver's would like to see in a plan before and after the vote and didn't get one credible answer. That is, a series of bullet points on what they would like as a complete wishlist, how that benefits the UK, what they think the UK will get and the rationale behind them.

The response was 'control of our borders' and 'power to make our own laws'. Is that it? Not how or why or what for or how it will make our lives better but a load of soundbites and unsubstantiated crap along with a good dose of bullshit too.

When you come up with a plan then we can all discuss it. Until then stop asking people that voted remain what they want as in the whole what I wanted was for to carry on as we were. I don't have a problem with immigration or the way our laws were made/ implemented so why would I want them any different now?

So what have you got Prog?

I need to answer this later, but MP's are elected to sort out these sort of things. Useless bastards that they are

To pinch a phrase you used earlier today....

With respect, some would see that as a cop-out ?

Truck hire companies are finding the pinch which tells you there is a lot of confidence out there as companies are buying rather than hiring.

Scania UK have sold more trucks than any other country.

Volvo construction usually have a quiet January and February, that hasn't happened this year.

All signs are very positive, but I guess they still would have been if remain had won.

I assume most of what we export is stuff that can't be bought locally, that won't change over night and if it can then it will be the same with what we import.

I really don't think the economy will crash when we eventually leave.

yep, i think i read the icaew had a report suggesting over time we'd end up about 3% down. below, but not a killer.

of course, it's still just forecasting. there's obviously more uncertainty with leaving so it's higher risk in that regard.

over time, as we are not operating a parallel reality i guess the better off/worse off argument will just become moot, unless the economy did bomb.

On this thread. You.

Sorry but you are wrong. David Cameron did say it.

From the link below.

David Cameron confirmed Sunday that he will pull Britain out of the single market if there is a vote to leave the European Union at the upcoming referendum.

The prime minister told the BBC’s Andrew Marr show that it would be impossible to copy the Norwegian model by remaining inside the trading bloc despite being outside the EU because that would mean accepting freedom of movement and trade rules made in Brussels.

He said the Brexit campaign had made it clear to voters that voting to leave also meant pulling out of the single market.

Whilst it can be a bit like the Alamo on this thread it's nice that Crocket thm Bowie progwolf have joined me Travis is our battle for independence! There are a few more leavers too! I know we are in the minority but all views are valid. Compromising needs to be done. I have said that from the start but washing dirty linen on both sides likiey Junckersd keeps trying to do is, I repeat, unhelpful.
As for asking for a wish list I did that last July for Paddington on this thread.

Deutsch a genuine question as I don't know are you able to get dual nationality? Somewhere in my mind you either grew up or have German relatives? Perhaps I imagined it. My grandmother was county cork so I suppose I could try!

Just floating an idea here. Why not get individuals to pay an annual fee for European citizenship to enjoy those rights within EU states?

Please correct me if wrong, but isn't 'freedom of movement' an underpinning element of the Treaty of Rome?

The treaty of Rome was an agreement between the original members. Heath said that the referendum back in 75 was about jobs and trade and had nothing to do with losing sovereignty. He lied to the British public. It is something that Prime Ministers quite often do, before referendums about the EU. Heath knew that our entry to the EU, would make us lose sovereignty, but he did everything to hide it from the electorate. That has been proven. There are papers that have come to light, that show our entry to the EU, was done by a huge deception. The first chance we had to put right those lies, we took.

Can you repeat your wishlist now we have had the vote in light of not being able to be in the single market. I think it would be very helpful as other Leavers don't seem to want to do this.

Also, not just a wish list, but why, how it will be achieved and the rationale behind it would be great. Got to think of the Europeans in this too, they aren't going to accept anything that undermines their tennets so it is pointless saying that can be achieved if they won't move from them.

(and before THM chimes in with soundbites of being held to ransom, this is a list and explanation not an emotional diatribe).
