REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

Coward. He fucked up, I'm not surprised about the resignation but how about a smoother transition in a time of at first glance extreme uncertainty?

So, new Thread in October

What the Fuck has Boris done now?

hardly surprising cameron has gone. he can't realistically lead the eu discussions, never mind it's been an acrimonious referendum that he championed, led and ultimately failed in.

Coward. He $#@!ed up, I'm not surprised about the resignation but how about a smoother transition in a time of at first glance extreme uncertainty?

During campaigning he said "If the vote is Leave I will not resign and I will immediately invoke article 50"...

Today he has done the opposite, resigned and NOT invoked article 50. Politician in not sticking by his word shocker

Only thing he could do - he promised to push the button on the 2 year leave immediately, this would have been even more economic suicide than actually leaving. He knew couldn't push the button so this was the only option.

He's done the right thing for the right reason. Fair play to him

The Article 50 was part of the idea that it frighten people into thinking "that would be too quick and dangerous, better vote remain"...downside to that is not a lot of people will know or care what Article 50 is.

Not invoking it right now is probably the best decision (after quitting) he has made in months.

So take your pick - Gove, Johnson, May or Osbourne. Unless the Conservatives have a hidden gem it will be a grim period until the next election

Fook me, FTSE down 7% already:

House builders getting destroyed, definitely no money for WOlves now from Morgan...

Edit FTSE100 now down 8%, FTSE250 down 12.5%.

Billions and billions wiped off economy now.

I wouldn't worry about the FTSE unless you're intending on taking your pension in the short term, in fact buy a load of credits. Once the 'experts' have stopped speculating it will recover.

The currency market might be different, although it's still stronger than it has been for a long time. Don't forget it dropped to less than 110 in about 2008 and has only just started to recover.

I'm not fussed, I sold every share I had a week ago.

Its more a function of what it shows for the future, especially the 250. Investment in the UK is going to tank.

Totally Kenny...Another of the more subtle scare tactics that was just hot air.

As for leader of the Conservative party, they are all as bad as each other and I'm with you. I hope they have someone who comes from left field (or should that be right) to lead

The remain campaign misjudged the will of the people. Their memories of Cameron pre 2010 saying how the Lisbon treaty needed fundamental and significant change to be acceptable to Britain. His failure to deliver any meaningful change yet head the remain campaign was, in hindsight, an own goal. Corbyns failure to unite a labour vote is another own goal. His changing opinions was proved to be divisive.Markets like stair lifts can go mup as well as down. Let the dust settle. What the result does give me is a little more faith in the British system showing the people when pissed off can cause a real upset. Now politicians from all sides need to earn their corn and come up with a plan for exit and the future. Sturgeon may well go for a referendum but the economic case is really really poor as on its own Scotland meet very few criteria to join the EU. Now is the time for the United Kingdom to unite and show its mettle.

Surely there's no way any Tory MP from the Remain camp will be elected as the new PM??

RBS down 34%, Lloyds 28%, Barclays 30%.

Outsider is Patel. She backed the right horse and is a new face not tainted by any old battles.

Does this mean I'll now get customs + VAT charges for some stuff I have coming in from Germany tomorrow?

That's all I'm bothered about!

No.

Nothing will change for over 2 years.
