Reading Build Up

For me Edwards comes off the bench when we need a goal in the last 20 minutes (just about every game then).

To me it is quite simple. We have strikers who dont score enough. Dicko and Bod have not cut it up front this season. Cav Costa and Edwards have done the scoring, and none of them are in double figures and its pretty much March. 15 championship sides have strikers in double figures. We have none.

The defence is doing what that defence has done for 3 seasons. No change really, other than Stearman being a bit slower. Coady at right back is adequate but thats it. We all asked for a defensive upgrade and didnt get one. So hey ho.

The midfield has less creativity than a four year olds colour by numbers book. But again we knew that. We also knew that selling Afobe and Sako meant they needed to be replaced effectively. Statistics clearly show that they have not, not by a long long way. Bod brings lots of endeavour to the team, but no goals. Dicko has had plenty of chance to shine and actually a number of chances to score and only taken one of them. I cant help thinking that it was a real mistake not bringing in a striker of championship quality during the window, given that you were not strengthening either the defence or midfield significantly.

I think rather than who plays where and with whom Paul Lambert has to change the pattern of play if its been found to be consistently not working. So rather than having as a priority the athletic ability to get around the field quickly without the ball the focus has to change towards technical abilities on the ball.

Edwards is a shit CDM and he's a shit CAM.

Plenty of players on a Sunday morning can run for 90, get in people's face, and make late runs into the box. When people say he isn't good enough for us they are damn well right.

We have better in both positions. Get rid now while he isn't scoring.

In a similar vein when I play 6 a side I pretty much always score at least one, I run around a lot but am last pick because I am monumentally shite at kicking the ball where I want it to go

Don't play anyone up front and remove the option of lumping it aimlessly forward.

4-1-3-2-0

We'd still lump it aimlessly forward, the only difference would be Dicko/Bod wouldn't lose the header.

Hard to see anything other than an easy Reading win, they're a good team - especially at home - and we are not a good team.

Lambert says he'll be making changes.
I'm wondering if he has no idea regarding his best 11, and he's doing the "lets hope this works" thing.

I think he knows what he wants to be his best 11 but most of them are actually shit.

Well he needs to make some changes doesn't he?

Seems to me that he can't win either way now.

Any team with Edwards and Doc in it isn't our best 11

Lambert big plan...

Ikeme; Coady, Batth, Stearman, Doherty; Saville Evans; Costa, Edwards, Weimann; Gladon ;)

I think I would go:

Ikeme

Iorfa. Batth. Hause. Doherty

Price. Saiss

Bod. Bright. Costa

Dicko

Maybe semi realistic

Ikeme

Marshall Williamson. Saiss. Doc
Price. Evans
Costa. Bright. Weimann
Dicko

Or

Ikeme
Iorfa. Stearman Williamson Doc
Marshall. Price. Saiss. Costa
Bod. Dicko

Ikeme

Marshall Williamson. Saiss. Doc

Costa. Bright. Weimann
Dicko

Or

Ikeme
Iorfa. Stearman Williamson Doc
Marshall. Price. Saiss. Costa
Bod. Dicko

Would go with the latter team except change Stearman for Hause who I think has the potential to be the best CH that we have, but needs an organiser next to him at the moment. For me that can only be Williamson.

Not sure about Marshall - needs to have got rid of a few pounds if he is going to play there

I dont expect Paul Lambert will select Conor Coady or George Saville this week but I do expect him to find a place for Ben Marshall while also trying to shoehorn an extra striker into a 4-2-3-1.
