Absolutely detest it with a passion - probably even more than November 5th. An absolute con. Relationships are so personal, I loathe the ridiculous idea of shoehorning in what feels like an obligatory day just to make money from people. Fuck off.

Fortunately, my girlfriend has told me she hates it probably even more than I do, and not to get her anything because there's absolutely zero chance of her getting me anything. Which I think is marvellous.

Absolutely. And doing something you feel obliged to do just because your partner is gullible enough to subscribe to the bizarre notion that a manufactured day somehow has any significant meaning to your own relationship is not my idea of romance.

There are so many things you could celebrate at any time of the year - the day you got together, first kiss, first shag, first time you took her up the Wolves (if that's a euphemism or not), birthdays, whatever. At least those dates are special for you. Unless one of those happens to fall on February 14th, in which case you poor fucker - you're going to get stung when all the nobheads out there increase the prices in restaurants etc to line their pockets with the cash of the gullible sheep out there who think this poxy day is somehow 'special' to them.

Couldn't give a toss personally but end up having to get a card for my girlfriend just to keep her quiet, thankfully she's not overly arsed about it either so it doesn't have to stretch any further than that.

Must admit, I have to agree with all of that Langers, you should celebrate a day that means something to you personally, not because someone made a day up telling us all to mark it as a special day. Would hate to think I was bought flowers and shit just because someone felt that they had to , or that they thought I would be upset if I didn't get any ( not that I like flowers anyway, they remind me of death ) Mr P will be cooking a meal but only because its a Saturday night and its his turn ! Can't be doing with all the hearts, teddy bear shit and other cringe worthy tat that is on display. Save ya money, take me for a pint and bag of scratching instead! Wished Mr P felt the same as me about it.

For me valentine's day is actually quite important. Janine and I have kids from other relationships and the one day where her kids dad and my kids mother wouldn't dream about doing anything other than leaving us to have some time to ourselves is February 14th. Yes, it is crass and commercial, but it gives us an opportunity to spend some rare and very valuable "two of us time". I am thankful for that.

More than one. I've a collection of moneyboxes that people gifted over the years. I put individual coins (shrapnel) into them to avoid the pita of sorting them.
Like darlo I also have a £2 coin one. It's magic, as you don't get that many, but it builds up really well & is great when you cash it it - it'll cover all christmas, or a years car insurance etc, or even a season ticket :hmmm:

more food than is necessary - I love to have a lot of choice. A pasta salad would be a must!

Errrr. Tuna sarnies, cherry tomatoes, strawberries, orange juice and maybe a bottle of beer.

Not that I can recall. I enjoyed going to the circus.

Chilli con carne and a pint of shandy. Or in my younger days when I used to frequent local spit and sawdust establishments with my dad, a crusty cheese and onion cob. There also used to be someone who came into the pub on Sat nights with a seafood hamper. I used to have a tub of prawns with a little plastic fork and a sachet of vinegar.

I'd want to know every detail no matter how disturbing. I'm a pragmatist so would want to research it all myself. I don't tend to get worried by medical procedures.

She should be able to. Anyone who isn't able to not touch alcohol for 30 days has a problem IMO.
