****POLL NOW IN OP****Who do you want next?

I hope it works out obviously but I've got a massive dose of scepticism to get over first.

So do I, or I can expect a tirade of Moxey’esk abuse very quickly emanating from the South Bank in the direction of Mr Shi.

Moxey over-sold and under delivered. That doesn't seem to be Jeff Shi's mantra at all. Quite the opposite.

Maybe so, and I know it's the South Bank, but I heard at least a couple of vocal grumbles at the Man Utd game. One being a very audible "Jeff Shi you're a wanker"

One thing I never understood about Nuno and his backroom team from last season was :

1 ) Why did we never work on a proper corner taking routine ? We continually allowed poorly taken corners to exist for the entire season - why was this not tackled ?
2 ) Defending against free kicks and corners was desperate as well . We looked leaderless in those situations time and time again . Why was this not addressed /
3 ) Why did we repeatedly have a poor first half showing , very often conceding in that time period as well , leaving us with a mountain to climb in the second half . Again it was never addressed it seems .

Nuno kept coming out with the line ' We need to find solutions ' .

Nuno is a gentleman first and foremost , lets never forget that . He turned us into a serious outfit , but this is not 2003 anymore . Our ambitions are much higher now .
The complete failure to solve any of the above last season was something I couldn't get my head around .

It’d have been nice for at least one journo to have asked these questions or “what exactly is the solution” But I guess they didn’t want to rock their cushy boat.

And I think this was the most concerning thing and why I think we'd have been in trouble this season - you can't really pin any of the above on Jimenez, Neto and Jonny missing for most of the season. Lack of goals, sure, but not the fundamental basics.

To be honest I attribute the "slow" first halves to us trying to suss the weaknesses of the opposition out.

I mentioned this against Brighton I think, when even the commentators were commenting on how awful they were. Knocking it back for Hoever to try and cross it when its just not his game. Id have had either Hoever knocking it back to Moutinho who has better ability, or RAN/MGW. Ether of those could have crossed better than KJH from a short or put balls in direct. The other thing for all the short corners we've only tried to recreate the one v Man Utd (Neves goal) once v Leicester (VAR disallowed) and seemed to have abandoned it.

Weird thing is, we looked to have changed it at Spurs and did really well on every corner in the first half proving we were able to do it all season really. Just elected to persevere with the previous approach.

Concentration is the best argument I've heard for this.

Especially when you have players in positions which aren't always familiar (Donk at cb, Coady in a 4, Traore at RWB/CF, Saiss etc)

Couple that with younger players who are prone to natural lapses of concentration as they develop and while the unit performs well for patches (and more consistently in 19/20) they're never far from that individual brain fart which leaves us chasing a game.

I also think this us the reason even with so called 'favourable' runs of fixtures we have never been able to string together runs of wins. Our best run was won 4 in 5 in 2018/19. (5 in 6 last season but there was a 3 month break between games 3 and 4)

"It is understood that Lage has been highly recommended to Wolves owners Fosun by 'super-agent' Jorge Mendes, who has close ties with the Premier League club through his agency Gestifute.

Lage is a free agent after his contract with Benfica was terminated last July and Mendes has been determined to land him a job in English football ever since."

The latter tells the tale.

Realistically, unless it was a Championship job the only place he'd have any chance of getting a job in England is with a fairly safe PL mid table team who are willing to take a risk.

Bigger clubs will want a sexier CV and teams expecting to be near the bottom will want a safer pair of hands.

At least he'll be refreshed, clear-headed and coming off the back of plenty of family time

its his job to do that

There's definitely a hint as well of trying to save money in appointing him . No compensation involved , no contractual payout of any sort , just walk straight in .
Add to this the fact that he'll be less inclined to argue with a transfer policy of getting players in on loan / or selling to buy , as opposed to having a high net spend .
There is almost the feel to it that they see Lage as a stop gap measure until fans are back fully in the stadium again and income therefore improves .
All he has to do is keep us in the Premier League for next season . We should have full crowds back at some stage in 2022 and Molyneaux should be generating far more income as a Stadium then as well .
It's definitely a risk , no question , but there was a risk with keeping Nuno as well that there would be little improvement .

Always with the songs. Whatever happened to a good old yell and clap?
