O'Neil In, Out and Shaking it all about

Everyone thinks he's wonderful but don't want him at their club.

It's all a bit weird to be honest as is the fact that he is not being questioned despite 1 win in 20
I still don't blame him solely for the end of last season though. We were too much of a basket case with a bench full of kids and relying on running 12-13 fit senior players into the ground for 90 mins every week.

I posted 'taxi for Gaz' on a mates WhatsApp group on Saturday and got loads of shocked emojis in response. I pointed out we'd got one win 20 v Luton and it all went quiet. He's the Max Kilman of managers - outside perception is way better than the reality.
You’re absolutely right. I keep being told by my mates “you won’t go down”. It’s weird.

They obviously don’t watch our matches!

My lot are a bit more understanding this time but they honestly didn't see from the outside what my problem was with Lage.

I told them to settle down for four hours and now you'll fucking get it.

Still singing his name from the South Bank smattered in with “you don’t know what you’re doing”

Had we won on Saturday no doubt barmy army would have started up again.

Pretty strange. I feel the crowds are watered down these days, with less of the vitriol we’ve seen in the past.

Less and less long term regular STHs will have an effect too. I doubt many Korean fans sitting their with the half and half scarves will give much of a fuck.

Didn't see any tourists taking selfies on Saturday night but they were everywhere against City the other week in their half and half scarves and smiling for pictures on the way out after another defeat (they were probably supporting City anyway)

I saw a fan at half time trying to take 2 beers back to his seat and then seem confused when he was told he couldn’t by the stewards.
It’s only been outlawed since 1985 but hey ho.

I think if we beat Southampton it may give a lift and the team some confidence and he should be given another game or two.
Lose or draw and he has to go.
Not sure who a good replacement would be, Moyes I suppose.
I'll never understand this thinking. How does one game against Southampton decide whether he stays or goes? You either think he's good enough, or you don't, based on this season, last season, whenever. Why pin the decision on one game and kick the can down the road if he gets a win?

Because they think he is, don't want to sack him and will only do so when it becomes untenable, which failure to win on Saturday would be I think

I get why the club do it, fully expect it to be the case. It's more why fans, like Wolftone for example, feel the result of the game will make up their mind?

The result on Saturday won't change my view, we could win 5-0, I'd still sack him

The only exception to that rule would be something like 2003. If Dave Jones loses that playoff final then he has to fuck off, he's had two years with a ludicrously expensive and talented squad for that level and failed twice. As it was he won it and you probably have to give him a go at it. Despite all the obvious reservations.

Whatever happens on Saturday is unlikely to change anything in my mind, unless we suddenly look like we can control a game and defend, which we never have under Gary O'Neil, ever.

It'll be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

After the shit show at Brentford and the admittedly very difficult start to the season I wanted at least 4 points from Palace and Southampton...

Despite what turned out to be a surprise point at Brighton, the performances have left me thinking (if it were my decision) that only a commanding performance and convincing victory v Saints would stop me pulling the trigger.

GON should be on his bike unless we absolutely dominate Southampton. I've seen enough.

It's not about Southampton, we should beat them with Mr Bean in charge. But do you want him in charge for Fulham, Bournemouth, Everton and West Ham? That's a run of games that will literally make or break our season. If we don't get 7+ points from them (9+ if we don't beat Southampton) then we're going down.

Yeah and? Just wait until the last possible minute to change the manager. It has worked for us before, what's your problem.

We'll sack GON when we don't win on Saturday, then have Dawson as caretaker for 3 weeks.

I'm still fuming that he wasn't sacked prior to the last international break, after the Brentford game. That would have given us that time, plus the City and even the Brighton game if we needed it, to get our shit together and appoint a new manager before this run of fixtures that we've hung our season on.

Pricks

That's about where I'm at.
I'd add I'm not convinced a new manager will get much more out of some of these players, we are low on quality.
With a new boss and some big spends in January maybe.
