Johnstone and Fraser a pretty significant downgrade on Ruddy and Bonatini when last at that level. That's the killer issue there.

Surprised no one has mentioned Dawson. If/when we go down, he seems like prime captain material and will probably be our first choice CB in the Championship next season. With hindsight, he should have been captain this season.
 
He should have been captain but it was awkward to do so because he wasn’t a guaranteed starter and isn’t now either.

Lemina was the only other choice but then we signed another CM we didn’t need and he was even a gusranteed starter and had been shoehorned everywhere since
 
I've never agreed with the club captain concept. Although sometimes is does work well (Coady, playing every minute of every game, great community work), I say pick your XI, then pick your captain.
Real leaders don't need to wear an armband anyway.
 
IMO Dawson and Bueno should be our regular CB pairing, injury excepted, and Dawson isn't playing regularly because of the person picking the team, who is incompetent.

I would have agreed three games ago, except for the fact Dawson was a disaster in the first and second of those two games and was rightly dropped.
 
I don't think Dawson manages a 46 game season and we aren't fond of managing players minutes so if he stays of expect him to become a parody in the Championship.

Dawson was lauded by several posters here for his performances since his first match of the season . Has he really become a dreadful player in the space of a few weeks ?
Or was he just asked to play again far too soon ?

I know a lot of people took the piss out of Coady for being brought along to tournaments as a "cheerleader" by Southgate, but clearly there's a role in the modern game for recognising that someone can have value to a squad, even providing a kind of leadership, regardless of whether they're on the pitch.

What's still not changed, though, is that you do actually need mentally strong players on the pitch - not necessarily wearing an armband - who can make sure that their teammates don't lose their heads, remember tactical instructions, keep their spirits up after conceding, etc. Strong personalities. That's where our current squad is fucked.

It seems to me that we are sleep walking into relegation with nobody at the club being particularly concerned about it. It is an astonishing situation. Are their any protests planned for the Ipswich game?

That bit isn't the biggest issue, it is the "will to do so".
They just don't care.
