Are we in "must not lose" territory already? Because September looks pretty grim...

Forest are no great shakes at all having failed to beat us in either encounter at the City Ground since they came up and also contriving to lose to a team managed by Steve Davis - we haven't actually lost at their place since Saunders was our manager - but if we defend (collectively and individually) like we did against Chelsea then we will lose.

I am working on the basis that Johnstone will sign on Thursday or Friday in time to play and go straight in. Obviously Sa if not though it's a fair comment that has been raised by others - with us openly chasing more than one keeper in the last fortnight, his state of mind might not be great at all. He's three sandwiches short of a picnic at the best of times.

I know Yerson has had some iffy moments to match the good ones so far, but he should be comfortable on the left.

Have I mentioned he played there for Cincy? Just once more, then…

I’d go with your team. Dawson played LCB tonight and was more than comfortable and so could play that side if needed.

Lima was great tonight but glad to have Semedo back in contention.

I'd still like us to go 4231, but as mentioned after Chelsea a different approach to how we play it

Quite like that team but it needs to be disciplined. If Ait-Nouri or Semedo goes forward, then someone needs to provide cover for the break....assuming we don't score every time we go forward of course. The issue with this format is asking one of Lemina, J Gomes, R Gomes or Podence to support the defence.

I like the look of both DWs and TTs teams, TTs looks pretty exciting up front.

3-4-3 for me, until we can integrate Andre as the No.6.

.................... Johnstone

.... Mosquera - Dawson - Toti

Semedo - Lemina - Gomes - RAN

........ Rodrigo - Larsen - Cunha

Or 3-5-2 if Rodrigo still isn't gonna be started.

............... Guedes - Larsen

DW's team for me. Gomes the deepest of the 3 but fluid when Lemina needs a break from the box-to-box role.

I'd go

Semedo - Lemina - Doyle - Gomes - RAN

Why? It will enable RAN to get forward more (which is where he is best) and not be such a liability as a defender, it gets Dawson in, which we all agree we need, and it also means we can bolster midfield which was walked through with ease on Sunday.
Exactly this.

Johnstone

Semedo Mosquera Dawson RAN

Gomes Lemina

Sarabia Cunha Gomes

Larsen

We really are light on proper options in wide areas

Impossible to know what we're going to do in terms of system now.

Last night we played more or less the same as we've been playing all pre-season but with O'Neil now deciding that the squad isn't capable of that, what do we do now?

Do we keep on with a system that he knows (and has now let the whole world know) can't work, or do we rip it up and try something completely different with very little prep time for what has now become a very important game?

What a stupid fucking situation we've managed to find ourselves in. Again.

Johnstone
Semedo Yerson Dawson Toti
Doyle
Lemina Gomes
Cunha Larsen RAN
Dawson in to the back 4, Toti at left back with RAN pushed further forward. Doyle in to give the extra body in midfield and to move the ball about. That front three would be lethal on the break/running from deep, and keeping Toti in the backline still gives us a presence to defend set pieces. He won't go wandering off and should in theory keep some sort of shape defensively, while the other more creative types do their thing.

If we do keep with 4, then this would be my preference.

RAN has shown on 2 occasions that he's vastly out of his depth as a LB.

My concern with this formation though is that Dawson will get exposed.

I'm all for RAN as a LW though, pity we don't have a proper LB isn't it...

RAN is a dilemma. We all know he is a very talented player who can create the opposition problems but what do you do if you are coaching him and wanting him to attack and defend? Where do you draw the line between the two as we know in attack he can be exciting but every time he surges forward, a gap is created. Cover is essential and usually when one player goes forward another drops back into the void created.

Dawson would be less exposed if Gaz tells the defence to drop 10-15 yards and to stop playing a suicidal high line.
