Non League Football.

It would help with the travel disparity as well. You could have more evenly distributed teams and stop someone like Merthyr having to play in the “north”

They'll be paying him a relative fortune, but Liam Kinsella to Hednesford is one hell of a signing at that level. Regular in League 2 to Northern Prem.

Hednesford have sacked their manager whilst 2nd in the table and playing top at home tomorrow, going above them with a win. It seems harsh on the face of things, but the football is awful. I've been 5 times and they've won 4, but it's hoofball and sitting on 1-0 leads which has come back to bite them a couple of times recently. Their budget is massive for that league, so really they should be romping it.

What does it cost for that level?

I started going to watch Sheffield FC in October and really been enjoying it, costs £8 to get in and is like £4.50 for a brew and a tray of chips. Finished 3rd in the end so in the playoffs next weekend.

York score a 96th minute winner to move further ahead of Rochdale who can only draw at Hartlepool.

£14. Which for the suburbs of London is cheaper than most activities.

They got promoted anyway, by losing. Good first half and very little in the second. Think they will be mid table ish next season in the National League South but they've ended the season poorly since the manager got poached 10-15 games ago by Yeovil.

Heading down the road today to see Walton & Hersham most likely get promoted to the National League South shortly. Been once before and it's a decent watch and atmosphere especially considering the level.
Glory hunter :)

Been searching for my local football fix for a while but just not getting a connection so far. Want to get into Epsom & Ewell but they play at Leatherhead’s Fetcham Road Stadium and most locals (Chelsea heartland) who need a non-league fix just follow Leatherhead instead.

A couple of mates invited me to Kingstonians but they play at Raynes Park after getting shafted by AFC Wimbledon over Kingsmeadow. From next year they go to Ashford up near Heathrow (didn’t realise but google says they’d ground shared at Letherhead’s Fetcham Road ground for a while previously too).

Also been invited to see Chelsea women at Kingsmeadow, but can’t be doing with any links to any recognised ‘big’ club as that would feel disloyal to Wolves, and yeah, the Kingsmeadow thing has a bit of a dark history so a bit put off by that too.

Figured my criteria was reasonably close by for a connection plus a secure home ground for a sense of stability also. All indicators point in the direction of Corinthian Casuals who are only 4.2 miles, a 20 min bike ride away in Tolworth. Combined Counties Premier Division South. Crowds approx 250-300, £10 entrance. Quite sad so many clubs even at those sort of levels have to bounce around ground sharing after getting turned over by property developers but suppose that’s always the way.

Anyway, CC next season, will have to see how that goes.

Sutton United perhaps? I did enjoy a bit of AFC Wimbledon the last couple of years but as you say, hard to feel affinity for a more recognised club. Walton & Hersham has no hardcore fan base so it's a bit weird and today the away fans were there in almost in equal force, but they are trying to build a connection with the community so that's good to see.

Yes, I did consider Sutton, especially as I ride and socialise with a group on a Wednesday evening right next door in Cheam, so have at least some connection. Sutton were in League 2 when I moved here and that broke my self-imposed, slightly odd, loyalty to Wolves 2nd club rule of no one in the top 4 leagues, but they’re back in the National League now so maybe should re-examine that one, only 5 miles away too.

It’s a strange thing trying to pick a 2nd club, doesn’t feel natural at all, especially if the club doesn’t have its own ground which is what did it for Epsom & Ewell, and also Kingstonians unfortunately.

Corinthian Casuals have their own ground and a right little group of fans who do the flags and banners thing apparently. Also got one of the best names in football too I reckon so will give them a whirl next season and see where we go from there.

Hereford in real trouble. It’s very sad for the City. I remember when they hit the heights of the old Division 2.

Technically that was a different club. The current one isn't Hereford United and had to start in Tier 9.

Just had a look into them as was interested in the name, and see they were the name origins for Corinthians in Brazil, and have played them. Very cool that.

Yes, and a few others, and even the reason why Real Madrid wear a white kit no less.

Famed for its ethos of sportsmanship and fair play apparently, giving rise to the term ‘Corinthian spirit’ which according to wiki is still understood as the “highest level of sportsmanship”.

Loved this reference:

“This spirit was famously summed up in their attitude to penalties; "As far as they were concerned, a gentleman would never commit a deliberate foul on an opponent. So, if a penalty was awarded against the Corinthians, their goalkeeper would stand aside, lean languidly on the goalpost and watch the ball being kicked into his own net. If the Corinthians themselves won a penalty, their captain took a short run-up and gave the ball a jolly good whack, chipping it over the crossbar."

Saw them a couple of times in Div 2. They signed Chris McKenzie from Corby Town so we went to watch him when they played Northampton and a couple of other teams I am blanking on.

The epitome of needing to have points on the table - I've been trying to keep tabs, I'm sure not long ago they were 4 points from safety with 7 games in hand, now three games in hand and 7 points from safety... really hoped for a stronger revival but Conference North has been such a stumbling block!
