If anyone can help me out, drop me a PM please...

Newcastle fans rumoured to be boycotting this game as part of their anti Ashley campaign. Might be a few seats in the home end going!

From now on its Neves or Moutinho for me, I hope Nuno sees it the same way. Moutinho looked like he was running on empty by the end on Wednesday, so I'd let the sports science guys do their job, if he's good to go then same 11, if not Neves in.

Wasn't at the Chelsea game but some seemed to panic about Saiss red card potential, the stats (yeah I know) suggest he was pivotal with most tackles made and completed all of his 32 passes, so for Newcastle do we go Neves + Moutinho or Neves + Saiss or even Neves + Dendonker

I wouldn't drop any of them after Wednesday night. It worked a treat and was the best performance/result in a couple of months. I am a big Neves fan but he hasn't set the world alight of late and last night worked. Let him work his way back in (unless Mou is knackered of course)

I'd say Moutinho was closer to a second yellow than Saiss. The one he did get was a 'taking one for the team' type to prevent a breakaway from our corner.

Both looked equally as likely to get another booking.

I only saw the second half and while I thought Saiss did a good job I thought Moutinho was fantastic. I can understand question marks over form last couple of games but certainly not about his work ethic and desire to be at the club, such a wonderful footballer.

For me it's not about whether Neves and Moutinho works, it's about getting us giving them the right tools to be successful in games IMO. The bulk of this season it has worked, just because on two or three occasions it hasn't is not reason to panic.

I think it will be Neves, Joao and MGW in the same role unless Joao is knackered from having played two games this week. A bit different though as we've had more rest time for both fixtures however.

I hope it's this.

Same team for me, very hard to drop Saiss after that performance. Having a left foot helped too, particularly when he was covering the WBs.

I love Neves & Moutinho, but they are very different players to Saiss. I thought Moutinho played exceptionally well against Chelsea, it was good to see him further forward than normal too - he could only do this as he knew Saiss was sitting back. Harsh on Neves, but he's not capable of playing the same role as Saiss (neither do we want him to)

A combination of Saiss and a formation tweak is what enabled Moutinho to play the way he did. He made tackles/interceptions to win back possession in a way we haven't had previously this year. I think it would be incorrect to change that.

We looked far better with MGW dropping in on Fabregas and the fluid front 3 with Raul and Jota meant we could actually have the ball in more advanced areas of the pitch. We didn't let them crowd us out in midfield and if we had played as we did against Chelsea against Huddersfield or Watford (Cardiff was an abberation) then those teams also don't have control of the midfield.

I was glad to see the change and really think it worked. Jota in particular looked far better with Vinagre and MGW next to him as it allowed his tight control to work. Saiss still did the nEves role of dropping out to the left side to receive the ball deep but with Jota and MGW filling that central birth it meant Chelsea couldn't press us as much as either of Hudds or Watford and that big change meant we performed far better.

Moutinho looked much happier with that role and even excelled when MGW went off and he went into a more advanced position.

Neves--Moutinho
------MGW-------

For me. Should work against the deep lying Shelvey and I'll take Jota and Raul up against Fernandez and Lascelles.

Saiss goes to ground quite a lot and is a bit clumsy sometimes - so yeah he is more liable to getting carded. Moutinho was walking a fine line as well but he's a lot less obvious with his fouling, it's more pullbacks and cynical stuff that's easier to talk your way out of.

3 games in 10 days is a lot, especially with how he worked right up to the whistle, so wouldn't surprise me if he's rested for Neves.

Agree with all of that really.

I think this will be a good alternative for when we play a team who try to match us, as Newcastle will. It will leave their middle centre back with a bit of a conundrum too.

This is the sort of game I want us to take something from. It is important. These games are what defines us. Don't get me wrong I loved Chelsea the other night but they are bonus points. These are the meat and drink games that, if we are serious about our ambition , we should be taking something from.

Yep agree with this, obviously want a win but a draw wouldn't be the worst result imo

Team supposedly -

Patricio
Doherty
Bennett
Coady
Boly
Vinagre
Neves
Saiss
Costa
Traore
Jota

Dropping MGW for Costa would be insane
