Newcastle (H) 28/8: Build-Up & Match Thread

We rarely beat Newcastle when they had Bruce, now they have a better manager than him and better players.

They are easily in better form than us, across the early part of this season and since January.

This is a massive game for us though, we need to start getting some points and quickly. Get to 10 games in on 4 or 5 points and it could be a long season

They're basically where we were after getting Europe in that first season back. A proper, genuine, and not-wholly-unreasonable feeling that they're going to shake the top six up. They'll be looking at us/West ham etc as the games they need to win to achieve their goals.
And like or loathe the money behind them (who doesn't distaste the people behind them, they are vile), they absolutely have the foundations in place and the potential to not just challenge the top 6 but in the not too distant future gatecrash the top 3.

Ronan is out as he is tired after his U21 game. Expect a sale in the next 48 hrs would be my guess

I hate everything to do with their ownership. I have made it clear from the first moment the deal went through. I hate them, and they are a stain on football. I want them to fail and fail dreadfully.

Sadly, their transfer bizz since arriving all speaks to a gradual build and then a few step changes in fees paid. Isak is the first signing of the next step up on that staircase of step changes. They haven't gone £200m a window bonkers. Sadly it all looks rather sustainable. Rats.

Am i the only one who thinks it's a lot of money to pay for someone who hasn't really impressed me when I've seen him play? Really inconsistent as well.

For Isak?

Yes - it does strike me as a lot. He scored a really lovely goal against Barcelona last week. Great run and beautiful dink over Ter Stegen, but I don't recall seeing him do that much in club football bar that. I have seen him play really well for Sweden though. I'm not entirely convinced, but we shall see I guess.

Is this still not sold out? Managed to get a ticket in the South Bank myself this time

Managed to get tickets for this for me and my eldest lad! Cue a Chris Wood hat-trick...

There's plenty of single seats dotted about everywhere, two together more of an issue

I had a look yesterday and found a three together in W6.

There's always loads of seats coking back available in the days leading up to the game.

They always put up the corporate seats in the northbank a few days before a game.when they invariably can't them out.

It is but unlike most clubs it doesn't really matter to them with the financial backing they have. He doesn't work out sell him for €20million, lost €50million no problem, onto the next one.

Guedes signed on the Monday and still didn’t start the Saturday. Nunes signed wednesday and played a lunchtime Saturday game.

Would say 1.5 training sessions for Isak is too little for him to go straight into the team.

He'll come on in the second half for goalscorer Chris Wood

I’d back Collins and Kilman against him. I’d also back Semedo pocketing ASM and I’d back anyone against Almiron. Whether we can actually threaten their goal and not concede from a set piece I’m not so sure though

I think it'll be low scoring, probably 1-0 to them or 1-1. We seem defensively capable which is positive.
