New - The things that really annoy you

Feel your pain.

Before starting at Zenith they used an external company where i had to load stuff up on line. Constant back and forth as the computer rejected documents for my 12 years self employed.
Then one day just got a message saying my details are incomplete but report for Zenith finished.

I sent a rather long email and all the documents direct to Zenith....just in case.

Yeah, I'm a sole trader.

They've got everything, I've explained absolutely every aspect of what I've done, including bits where I couldn't work and I'm fine with sharing that, that's just the way it is.

And it'll probably all be fine. But it's killing me.
Id imagine they have a process and when something goes everywhere so slightly outside that process their heads explode.

It'll be fine, plenty of people have gone from self-employed to employed. Do you have a contact there you can talk to who doesn't work in HR?

I've got my prospective boss, and they were dead keen on getting me on board. I am sure it will turn out ok but it's not a good mix with my condition!

This’ll sound flippant, it’s not meant to be, it’ll work out fine, you’ve applied they wanted you, or they headhunted you, you’ve got the job, it’s a glitch in the process because you’re outside the norm the HR company is used to dealing with, and now like most if not all of us do you’re overthinking it and running through all the worst scenarios.

Cat just darted out from the front window curtains, out his cat flap at the back door. Was worried he'd gone for a scrap. No, he's just come back through with a massive rat. I've no idea how him and it got back through the flap. Little bastard

International breaks are currently my favourite part of the season

Changed my car earlier this year from a Vauxhall Corsa to a Citroen DS3. Never had any problems with the Corsa in the 15 years I had it. First MOT for the DS3 £500 quid worth of stuff needs doing...

People who only clean the snow off of their windows and not the rest of the car.

Driving 30 minutes to get to work and the heating not being on when I get there.

Then I get hassled as to why I'm not answering calls yet. When the only reason I've had to come into the office today is to run the stupid automated robots, and has anyone bothered to assign any work to them? Have they fuck! Rendering it completely pointless me being here.

On that note, my central heating packing in the day before it snows.

Thanks, boiler.
feel for you mate. Our boiler did the same a few years ago (2020, so all during covid), right as we went into the coldest week of the year, and it took 9 days til we were able to have a new boiler fitted. Hope yours is fixed quicker than ours was!

One for the advice thread? Mine’s a relatively new boiler but packed up last year and with the help of the net and YouTube topped up the water to bring the pressure back up and bingo. Two weeks ago packed up again, green flashing light on boiler. More youtubing and head-scratching. and eventually work out the thermostat in the hall isn’t communicating with the boiler. New batteries and bingo! Didn’t even realise the thermostat wasn’t hardwired in and there was still enough oomph in the old batteries to give a display on the unit, so I’m claiming a pass on that.

Don't know your circumstances of course but might be worth a question or two.

Same a couple of years ago. We had an old fashioned heating system which we had to get the gas man out to turn on each winter. We got him out in December 2022, he turned it on then on the evening we sat down all nice and toasty as it was literally about -10 outside and after about 30 minutes the carbon monoxide detector started bleeping, we had to get out of the house and sit in the heavily frosted up car until they came to isolate the gas. We were then without heating until April before we got the gas chap back to install central heating!

Another - Tuesday is our work in the office day. I came in this morning from Bridgnorth and there are 4 of our team who live in Wolves who have chosen to WFH for 'various reasons'!

4 months! Fuck! 9 days was more than enough for us. When he came back to instal the boiler, owing to covid we had to have every window in the house open. He still accepted cups of tea though!
