New - The things that really annoy you

I despise bonfire night. A terrified dog for about a fortnight either side of it as cunts set fireworks off. Obviously not a problem here this year.
What do they do in Oz? Do they even have a bonfire night? I thought the tradition might have travelled over what with it being essentially a historical colony.

Not having bonfire night. For a start it is my wedding anniversary.

Looking forward to going to a display on saturday with the wife.

Also really enjoying a book on the gunpowder plot at the moment. It is fascinating history!
Why are those 3 nice things annoying you LG?

We have a lot of places around here that are doing silent firework displays this year.
A nice step forward on that side of things.
How on earth do you have silent fireworks?
Or do you just let them off and pass round notes saying, "That was a good one!" or "Do you have any treacle toffee?"

They are called silent but in reality they are heavily reduced noise fireworks.
The explosion is not as loud as normal fireworks

It isn’t curmudgeonly to hate bonfire night with a passion. It’s sane.
yes it is. Absolutely nothing sane or rational to hate a specific date in a calendar. & Langers himself uses the curmudgeon word.

you and langers, and others don't hate bonfire night itself. You hate the selfish, anti social idiots who misappropriate it, and the fireworks etc for their own ends.

I hate both actually. But I am a curmudgeon.

if there were proper organised displays, and fireworks weren't sold to the masses so we didn't get all the anti-social behaviour, do you think that may change your perspective?

Also, I thought history was your thing (am I wrong on that too? ). Doesn't the history fascinate you?

No :ROFLMAO: It's just pointless standing in a cold field watching things blow up. Never liked it.

Yeah, the gunpowder plot is fascinating - love that era of history. But I also like reading about other important episodes of Stewart history - doesn't mean I want to inject myself with the plague.

Oh good. The annual bonfire night debate 😁

Well at least you all didn't go in to work this morning to the sound of
All I want for Christmas is you by Mariah Carey!

Pity there's no modern day, successful Guido Fawkes imo.

Having to see the face of Gonçalo Guedes on the Wolves Calendar this month.

Interestingly, fireworks are banned in Ireland.
Yup, they're illegal.
But as you leg it up the M1 (Irish) towards N.Ire, as soon as you get to the border there are about 20 fucking big signs "FIREWORKS!!" "FIREWORKS THIS WAY", "FIREWORKS FOR SALE - HALF MILE"!
So of course they're all over the kip.
And of course, it being Ireland, the police don't enforce it. Not one little bit!

That’s no different to the very strict off licence weekend hours in Sweden meaning people drive over the border to buy alcohol in Norway between Saturday afternoon and Monday morning

Went to Sweden a few times with work, home brew was a major thing as the prices were astronomical for a pint
