I think one of the problems now is we've gone so far down the Mendes/Portuguese route, we've painted ourselves into a bit of a corner, at least for the short term anyway.

gotta admit I kinda roll my eyes anytime we're associated with someone portuguese/mendes. obviously nothing against portugal but it has at points felt like we're being led by our noses. there's a literal world of options.

I’m not sure I agree here.

I don’t think there’s a world of options from where I’m sitting - not any good ones anyway.

Make no bones about it, we’re struggling.

We were rancid yesterday and nothings changed there - we’re losing that game against any other PL side…….probably comfortably.

We need someone fast. Like today. Like now.

And all this shambolic pissing around is totally on the incompetence of the board.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they have no more a clue who our next managers gonna be, than us.

The mastermind for Gerrard? Winning a 2 horse race in Scotland before coming to the Premier League and being distinctly average at best?

Winning a 2 horse race with a 3 legged donkey would be my description. No way should Rangers be any way competitive with Celtic considering the amount of finance the latter has received from years of European football.

I'm referring to a wider context-- the past several years of recruitment and management. Just something that's annoyed me for a while now, obviously a bigger convo than the manager search specifically.

A potential candidate who has only managed in Portugal I think and therefore lacks a wider range of experience that we really need . It is true that all Managers have a shelf life , and perhaps his shelf life at that club is approaching its final year , final few months .
Picking him has far too many risks for me .
Right now we need a more experienced head to steer us to safety this season .

Yes - it could work , it might work - but how high is the risk ?

Unai Emery is the kind of Manager I would go for - ticks a lot of boxes .

Unai Emery isn't going to leave Villareal for Wolves

Los of experienced managers.
Redknapp, Bruce, etc al, and none of them would be any good.

Emery would be ok, all managerial appointments have an element of risk no once would have imagined Nuno being such a success.
This appointment is massive we do need to get it right but we also need to get it right forma the next 3 years not just this season.

Inlike soñé of the younger managers linked such as Porto', abd Olympiacos, i am also excited and nervous by Nuño coming back

You'd seriously turn your nose up at Amorim?

But if you why’re a success in Portugal and move elsewhere and are successful they won’t want to join a struggling PL team as they’ll get better offers. Oh and that Mourinho chap did quite well in his first job out of Portugal.

It's a fucking tough one, isn't it.

I like the idea of Beale, he's clearly got an exceptional reputation as coach, and could be the next Potter. Edwards is a romantic option, but a bloody big risk.

But then given how close we are to peril, do we need a 'safer pair of hands' in charge? I don't even know what that would look like tbh. I can't imagine Neves, Joao and Nunes taking Sean Dyche or similar too seriously. Nuno would be a safe appointment but fuck me it'd be embarrassing, and even worse in 2-3 years time when we moved him on again.

But I also want us to avoid just having whichever Mendes puppet is thrown in.

Compiling a list of five names that are attainable, affordable, reputable, and ideally play front foot football isn't a job I'd fancy right now tbh. But then again I'm not paid to know about European football

Perfectly put. 👍

Agree with all of that, only thing I'd query is Edwards being the "romantic" option, where's the romance, unless you are referring to his incredible good looks.

He played a 100 games for us in a pretty dull period, he wasn't a crowd favourite or anything.

He's also 10 months younger than me, so that solidifies my negativity towards him.

FWIW, the romance is 25% playing career and 75% aesthetics!
