15 shots on target out of 57.
The most overrated three performances in the world.
There's also some weird crappy narrative that we changed style afterwards, we didn't. Madeley and Spiers even implied we changed from a back four, we never played a back four last season.
At a push I could give you 12 genuinely good performances under Lage. Out of 46. He was dismal.
Not overrated at all as you have to remember where we were coming from.
Since Covid football started we had been dull as fuck. Even the 3 games when it resumed where we won, they were hardly get you out of your seat performances. We even had one game in the full Covid season where we had a spell against 9 men inc a rookie keeper and he touched the ball twice.
Spiers and Part Time Madders confusing the pre-season under Lage where he tried the back 4....it was a disaster.
Those 3 games gave us an insight into what we thought we were going to get under Lage - Front foot and pressing teams back. Leicester should have been at least a point, Spurs a point and Utd a win (never forget the penalty we should have been given right after Trincao had missed his one on one...
The turning point was that Brentford game though. Once they put their pressing game into action, we crumbled. Had no out ball or no one to run the ball out from the back. What we had been doing before that point was thrown in the bin.
To a point it worked, because despite performances not being electric, they were functional (except when playing Palace) and got us into the Top 8 and at one point we were all talking about Europe again (some even getting giddy over the Champs League spots).
Then January happened - We got rid of Traore and replaced him with a raw kid and didn't sign a player Lage wanted (got Hwang though, so YAY) and then it fell apart. Lage went into his over speaking bollocks mode, the public calling out of Hoever etc
Leeds game killed the season. A combi of management decisions and our team forgetting they were pro footballers. From that point, we sat on the beach. Season over.
At the end of the season Jeff had to make a choice - sack Lage or back him. I know many on here would have prefered sack, myself included but have sat back and watched enough clubs make up their strategy on a whim at least our chief was prepared to back his decision to employ Lage and finally properly back him.
What should have happened with that backing is a return to how we looked in those opening 3 games. Somehow he managed to make us look worse than in the "on the beach" stage of last season. Some going that.
