I think we need a safe pair of hands and some experience. Don't get me wrong, I love a "young and upcoming manager" or "next big thing" rumour like anyone else, but given where we are in the table, how vital it is to start picking points up pretty much immediately, and the fact we have a lot of talented footballers under-performing, I want us to get someone in that is going to address the issues & get some order to the style and play from day one. For that reason, my personal preference would be Julen Lopetegui. He would command respect from the players straight away and he'd get us organised.
I like the look of Svensson, Mainz are good to watch. He'd come too if we offered it him, Mainz have a very obvious ceiling, even more so than we do. I like Ange, even if he does look like a roofer you'd see on the Rogue Traders segment of Watchdog.

Ultimately though I'm just looking for a straight line improvement from Lage. We're 18th. Any of the main candidates seem to offer that so I don't have a massively strong opinion either way. Obviously Carvalhal and Benitez can fuck off.

I would class Svensson in the "risky" section, but that's on limited knowledge, I admit. I just want someone that is going to come in and get the house in order ASAP. I think Lopetegui would do that, would be an immeasurable improvement on Lage and he was obviously Fosun's first choice. Can't give the guy too much stick for taking the Spain job over us, even if it did completely fuck us over at the time.

Someone with any relative competence should see this squad mid table. Anyone with some actual tactical acumen and who would be a good fit for the squad, someone who could get the best out of the players we have and prefers a system that would work with this squad should see us higher than that.

I think names like Lopetegui, Amorim, Martins could fit into the latter category. I can't say I know anything of Svensson or Postecoglou to make any kind of comment though.

I do think we have plenty of acceptable, realistic options.

It does seem like we're actually looking at different options this time, I'd be happy with any of the ones named (obvs not Carvalho or Benitez or any dinosaurs)

What a pre-agreement when it’s at home? The same as no agreement.

One would presume its a yes I will join you as soon as this lot have fucked me off at FT on Wednesday.

Is Lopetegui really all that or are we just getting excited because he's managed some big clubs? He was sacked by Porto after winning no trophies, he was sacked by Spain after pissing off the Spanish FA, sacked by Madrid after bad results and now it's not going too well at Sevilla. Plus, the reports are that his football is a bit uninspiring with a lack of goals.

I'm not trying to be knob, this is a genuine question btw as I think the only time I have watched one of his teams was when we lost in the Europa League.

He is not Bruno Lage, or some total joke appointment like Rafa would be.

That'll do. We're 18th in the league, if we want to wait for a mythical dream candidate then we'll stay 18th at best.

No clue but Nuno was sacked by Porto for similar.
Spain pissed on their own chips with that call
Madrid were a head case of a club at that point
Sevilla its gone down hill this season no doubt, but Europa Trophy win, CL qualification etc

I'm not knocking the appointment (if that's who we go for) I was just wondering if he'll live up to the hype.

I'd much rather have Lopetegui than Bruno Lage obviously. It's not even close.
