Molineux Extension

People won't be packed in as they were in old fashioned terracing though will they, everyone has an allocated place to stand so getting out to the toilet should be no more difficult that negotiating your way past a row of seats.

Easier if anything. Loads more room to move about.

Well, if people will stand nicely and politely and not move forward when there’s an attack/bad tackle etc then I’m sure it will be fine - but what’s to stop them doing that? Are there bars to lean on or anything that would stop surges?

"Safe standing" in places like Germany has bars, yeah - looks like this:

Standing was banned not because standing is inherently dangerous - or, at least, dangerous to an unacceptable extent. You could've installed bars along all the terraces to prevent surges easily enough, but the reason it was banned and not at, for example, large gigs, is because forcing football fans to sit was seen as a way of controlling hooliganism. I don't think there was any real evidence to support that theory before the ban, and I don't know if any now exists to show it did play a part in a lot of the violence leeching out of the game over the last 30 or so years.

I don’t see the attraction in the whole safe standing thing, the worlds moved on, have a seat. No being shoved around, kids and shirt people not being able to see, finding it hard to get through crowds so morons piss on the terrace - I don’t get the appeal.

Cant you piss sitting down? I can, but thus far have managed to ignore the obvious temptation to forget my potty training and piss over the people I sit by week in week out.
You have a very low opinion of your fellow fans.
Bieng shoved around is a part of my enduring memories of the 70's! its one stand out of four your choice.

Being shoved around was miserable (not in the 70's but in the late 80's). Arsehole fans who wanted to start fights and sang racist songs, oh what bantz. Liverpool fans who pushed a wall onto fans at Hysel, yep more of those please.

Fuck the 70's and 80's football hooligan nostalgia and the fans that crave it. Football stadiums are far better places now and the game is much better for it.

I don't think you can correlate racist chants with standing up, more a product of the times. Hooliganism back then (mid to late 80's) is a chicken and egg issue for me, people acted like animals, but were treated like animals.

Wasnt all bad, we actually had some atmosphere unlike now, mainly because like minded folk could stand together (this wont even bring that back ironically)

Watching that Man City/Chelsea match the other night it was painfully quiet.

Forget wasting money on safe standing, people stand anyway (makes no difference)...make it known when buying tickets that certain areas will be a vocal area/standing area and that can sort the wheat from the chaff.

People don't act like animals now and don't get treated like animals. Strange that.

I remember standing in the Southbank when Leeds fans got in and it was frightening. It was a nasty place to be, full of spite and hate, where idiots had a place to fight and be hooligans. The singing and the noise were great don't get me wrong but I'd take the sterile * atmosphere of modern stadia and being safe over that every time.

I agree there should be designated standing areas and safe standing would be a good idea for that and I think Molineux generates lots of atmosphere as it is, along with places like Anfield which when in full song is an excellent place to watch football.

*Sky often edit the sounds at stadiums.

IF the law ever changes for English clubs (Celtic is a separate thing obvs) then I have no problem with a safe standing area at Molineux. I wouldn't choose to use it myself these days at nearer 50 than 40, but for those that want it, it could be tremendous, and would definitely help the atmosphere.

I have no desire to stand all the time but see no reason to stop others doing it.

So Shi wants to build The Bernabeu, but Laurie reckons 50,000 is probably big enough. Development will only start once we are established and successful in the Prem (I guess this means knocking on the door of European football?).

First job is to expand the facilities of Compton. Buy more land for pitches and expand the buildings. Might spell trouble for St Edmunds???

Its not a direct correlation - but when there was standing before, it was a regular event as people couldnt be bothered to wade through the crowd to get to the loo's.

Maybe chavvy morons have higher standards these days...

Went to Anfield to watch Liverpool demolish us (Phil Parkes in goal) and a liverpool fan in front of me rolled his newspaper up, put it in the guys pocket in front of him and pissed down it....
Oh those fun days...

So if they extend the South Bank to 10,000 seats and the North Bank holds 7,500 that means that the Billy Wright and Steve Bull would need to hold 32,500 (currently hold just under 9,000 each) to get us up to 50,000.

I'd love a similar design to Old Trafford but scaled to our capacity needs: horseshoe South Bank joined up with the Steve Bull and North Bank and then a monster of a BW stand. Much rather that than an identikit ground.

I'd have thought that would be achievable too with the amount of room there is between the existing stand and Waterloo Road.

The BW can be moved forward also considering that it’s still a fair distance from the pitch.

God no. You can't even see the dugouts from the top tier of that massive stand due to the cantilever overhanging. It's a terrible view. You can't see the crowd in the Stretford End either.

Thatcher wanted it, she hated football, due to the working class watching it, she would have had it banned if she could have found a way.
She ordered All seater as a response to the Hillsborough disaster, where she requested people change there reports to blame the fans therfore enforcing all seater.

All seater is a fucking shit idea
