Man City 4-1 Wolves: Verdict Thread

I can't remember who said it, may have been YoungWolf, but what we miss is that Jota-esque player who can mix up our attack and formation a bit. We need one of those players again as Neto, Traore and Podence ain't it.
Jota £45 million! There was a reason.

City this year are comfortably better than Liverpool last year imo and it is to Guardiolas credit that he has harnessed that even from the quality he starts with.

As for us, some bright sparks in the second half but just concerning that the quality of players we have in Moutinho , Neves, Semedo, Traore, Coady, Dendocker, internationals all, seem to shrink within themselves.

We didn’t learn anything new though so I don’t understand people being so upset. We need a CB and a CM, and another wide option with some speed.
Not sure why we aren't using these games to learn new things though. Not just tonight but any games now really. May as well have a look at RAN and Vitinha, if we want to transition to a back 4 may as well start integrating that. At the moment we are just playing the same way we have been all season and I'm not really sure what we are getting out of it.

Where the fuck to start.

Patricio - Superb
Hoever - Disgraceful
Dendonker - Needs to never put a shirt on again and be shot, then shot again just to make sure. :ROFLMAO:
Coady - average, good goal
Saiss - disgraceful your passing is way below Premier League standard the one for their 4th goal was embarrassing.
Jonny - did ok, right to sub him.
Neves - got on the ball more second half and did ok.
Moutinho- ok was one of our better players
Traore - what the fuck are you doing, when there is space you stop and pass back 4 players round you and fuck around and lose it.
Neto - awful, shit and anyother word meaning the same thing
Semedo - did ok

Subs
Silva battled hard not much change from Citys defence
Otasowie - what the fuck are you trying to do dribbling in your own box with 4 of there players around you. You showed you should be nonwhere near the team.
In bold. But...... Otasowie is our saviour?

Bit grim but entirely predictable U suppose, pity we gave them 2 at the end.
City are head and shoulders above everyone atm.
Most concerning to me was our poor passing the 3 or 4 times we got the ball.
Anyway, we move on, I'd really like to see us much more pro active for the rest of the season, whether 4-2-3-1, 3-4-3, 4-3-3 or whatever.

Thought Fabio did a very selfless job when he came on, tried to do his bit to keep the City centre halves in check when they had possession and allowed the wide players to push onto the fullbacks rather than get caught between two players. Spent a lot of his time dropping in onto Rodri or de Bruyne if he'd come deep too as City played it forward allowing Neves and Moutinho to stay in more restrained positions.

Didn't really do much in an attacking sense though, covered off easily by Walker a couple of times, recycled one corner and helped set Traore away for one of his shots but he didn't do anything wrong for me.
Is not doing anything wrong the aim? Pretty shit if it is.

Well summed up. He should have started.

Think the frustration is that the team don't seem to be learning anything either, been alternating spells in recent games between the old passive style and a more assertive, forward thinking approach and on pretty much every game the latter looks more effective but it never seems to become the norm.

What’s frustrating is we went out with the tactic to defend the edge of our box and that’s it. You can’t do that against a team as good as City. They’re just too good and will get through you some how - it took them 14 minutes.

We’ve been told umpteen times that we’ve got nothing to play for this season - so just have a go. When we did, we scored! The problem is, as soon as we got level, we went back to defending the edge of the area and surprise, surprise, the same thing happens.

Fair play to City. They will win the league at a canter, but I can’t help but be disappointed with our tactics once again.

edit: oh, and I know the tactics can’t stop Adama from being a clown and trying to take on 4 players instead of making a simple pass, or Donk putting it in his own net (Sterling was putting it in anyway), or Semedo being 2 yards behind everyone else - silly individual errors are also costing us. Collectively as a club/squad, they are so much better than we’ve shown this season. It’s really disappointing.

Back four against City? No thanks.

Man City are the measuring stick. Most teams fall well short; we simply don't compare. I know City are packed with world class players, but I do find it a little surprising that we can't even get near them.

Still, I quite like the Portugal kit. Nice touch.

We saw how out of his depth Hoever was though. A good experience for him but if you throw RAN and Vitinha in too for example it would just be throwing them under the bus. Fabio got a good half an hour, and I agree with Mark's assessment of him.

I believe we will play a back four (not every game, but most of the time) when Boly is back properly. Especially now Jonny is fit. I don't think we should do it with Coady and Saiss because I don't think it benefits anyone, we saw the issues last time.

Lot of you complaining about how we approached the game but I think to still be in the game at 87 minutes suggests we didn't do too badly. Our passing in the first half was truly dreadful and that was at least partly due to their pressing. If we hadn't sat deep we'd have been dead and buried well before half time. As it was they needed Traore and OO to have brain farts to get ahead after we equalised. Not pretty but to still be in the game so late suggests we didn't get the tactics wrong, we just executed it very badly.

Because it’s English Football and every loss is the end of the club as we know it.

One thing I can never say about those of you who grew up as full-blooded Wolves’ supporters; you certainly never lack for emotional investment.

Except Mark, of course. 😉
I retired from that nonsense, caring just breeds stress.

Yep, not a tactics issue tonight I don't think. Just an individual comedy of errors, which is absolutely the story of our season to a T.
