A good season for Giles will see his value go up significantly and he might do enough for us to want to keep him. In the games I’ve watched Sanderson he’s looked well off PL standard but a solid season playing regularly should ensure a move next summer and probably for more than we could have got this summer.

Even with our paper thin squad and current injuries nobody like that is getting on the bench. Probable 9 as it stands next week Sarkic, Gomes, Boly, Coady, Mosquera, Hwang, Ronan, Cundle, Traore with Campbell instead of Traore or Hwang if they aren't fit. It's not balanced, but all are first team squad members. If he was here Sanderson would be 7th choice ch when hopefully we are playing 2

Fair challenge. Perry was a tongue in cheek suggestion, but last year we did rely on worse than Giles or Sanderson during the season in my view. Surely Cundle is the only person that played last year who anyone would argue is perhaps lower in the pecking order than Giles or Sanderson and it's not like he'd even get used in a position that either of the others would play.

We didn't have 5 subs last year, that's one difference. We'll see, the wider point was about the benefits of being loaned out to the championship this year versus selling or using them. I'd argue Gomes, Mosquera, Hwang, Ronan, Cundle and Hwang are all about the same level tbh. Throw in 3 injuries, you'd be calling on a few of them if you had any intent at all of making up to 5 subs a game (which I'm not sure Lage will).

I think the 5 subs is a bit of a red herring for us tbh. He often didn't make 1 until the 75th minute last year anyway. It'll benefit the big clubs, which is why it came in. We can only make 1 or 2 without seriously weakening the side so it'll be that plus injuries. Anyone on here could be sub 8 or 9 and it won't make a difference eg if we play a back 4 next week there isn't a scenario where Gomes comes on unless 3 centre halves get injured

Looks like Fabio came on at HT today but Anderlecht lost 1-0. They went down to ten men in the first half so not the ideal situation for him.

Had the 'pleasure' of attending this yesterday with a couple of mates from Yarm. Giles was excellent, should really have had 3 assists, whatmore missed an absolute sitter and also had another chalked off for offside, didn't look off to me but I was behind the goal.

Update from this weekend- been a while!

Dion Sanderson - Birmingham (Championship)

Played the full game on the right of a back three in a goalless draw at Luton, picked up a booking.

Ryan Giles - Middlesbrough (Championship)

Played the full game at home to Sandwell and got forward very well as usual. Put in a lovely through ball for the first, as mentioned, as really should have got an assist but Whatmore couldn’t connect for the tap-in from the cross.

Taylor Perry - Cheltenham (League 1)
A rollercoaster ride for Perry on his return. Played 77 minutes at home to Peterborough with the first half going exactly to plan as The Robins raced into a 2-0 lead. The second half, though, was a different story as Posh hit three without reply, with Perry taken off five minutes after the third.

Ki-Jana Hoever - PSV (Eredivisie)
Played an hour of PSV’s 5-3 Dutch Super Cup win over Ajax. Didn’t do much in any of the team’s five goals, but did half-heartedly saunted bck for Ajax’s first.

Bendeguz Bolla, Hayao Kawabe - Grasshoppers (Swiss Super League)

Both played 90 minutes with Kawabe setting up Dadashov for the equaliser. 1-1.

On as sub: Fabio Silva played the second half of a 1-0 defeat at Cercle Brugge, but was part of a losing battle with his team down to 10 men, as mentioned. Theo Corbeanu came on for the last 10 minutes in Blackpool’s 1-0 win over Reading, Campana came on for the last 20 minutes of Miami’s 4-4 draw with Cincinnati.
