Loan Watch 2020-2021

He’s had one half decent season ever 3 years ago. He just isn’t that good.

People on here disagree but I honestly don’t know what his redeeming features are. Rich mans Glenn Murray with worse touch, movement and finishing.

He always made runs in behind when he was slow, his touch with his back to goal was abysmal, nothing special in the air, weak. Then when the chance came he would fluff it.

Completely agree, for me his ceiling his doing ok for a lower end Serie A team because he just doesn't stand out at anything. He's not terrible he's just bang average all round.

Nuno doesn't do redemption, he won't be here one way or the other.

Bennet had plenty of second comings. Bright had more than his fair opportunities too.

Benno? Not really, he took a while to get in the team, was rarely dropped after that until he finally gave up on him. We frequently tried to buy other centre halves but when it didn't happen he just stayed where he was.

Bright had his initial run in the team and then nothing.

If you go out on loan as a senior player under Nuno then you aren't playing for us again.

He comes across a right petulant prick, that or his agent poorly advises him that he should be automatic first choice here or there and it goes to his head. Everutime he or his rep speaks in the press I wonder if he fell foul of the "no dickheads" policy.

MGW...?

May be the exception, although he's a pretty special case, how many 16 year olds can you remember playing for us?

Essentially though if Nuno has had enough of you, you either get sold/loaned quickly or you don't play again. It's happened right from the start, both Edwards and Dicko featured at the very start of 2017/18 (Dicko even scored a couple of goals). Both gone by the end of the window.

Which is a shame as Mir looks like a decent player now he's found his feet and maybe Cutrone could do the same.

Should never close the door.

Hoping Sanderson will now get some game time at Sunderland with a change in manager. Must be so incredibly frustrating for him to get plenty of praise and experience in the Champ last season, then find himself warming the bench in L1.

From the weekend:

Ryan Giles - Coventry City, The Championship

Got back into his team in midweek and put in two decent back-to-back 90 minutes displays, culminating in a key part in Cov's equaliser on Saturday, putting in a fine first-time ball that two forwards bundled into the net between them.

Matija Sarkic - Shrewsbury Town, League One

Made his comeback after several weeks out. Kept a clean sheet, no mean feat with EEL in front of him, but then it was against 10 men for most of the game. Went to extra time and Shrews nicked it 1-0 .

Austin Samuels - Bradford City, League Two

80 minutes midweek and a full game in the cup as his team lost 2-1 to Oldham. Didn't feature much in either unfortunately.

Rafa Mir - S.D. Huesca, La Liga

Played a full game in a 1-0 defeat at home to Sevilla. Had one strong shot on the turn well held by the keeper, while his clever dummy put a team-mate through on goal later who fluffed his lines.

Christian Herc - MFK Karvina, Czech Premier League

Played 82 minutes of a 2-0 defeat at home.

Connor Ronan, Leo Bonatini and Toti Gomes - Grasshoppers, Swiss Challenge League

Another full game for Gomes and 65 minutes for Ronan and Leo in a 1-1 draw. GZ got the equaliser after the two went off.

On as sub: Cutrone came on after 65 minutes in a 2-0 defeat at Milan.

Not in squad: Campana, Vinagre

No game: Sanderson, Ennis, Taylor, Pardington, Smith, Wang,

From midweek:

Another full game for Ryan Giles in a 1-1 draw at Derby, put a couple of wicked crosses over for O'Hare but he couldn't convert. Austin Samuels came on for the last 10 minutes or so in a 2-1 defeat, while Taylor and Sanderson were also late subs.

Unused subs: Ennis, Vinagre.

Ah, yes, looks like I got my fixtures mixed up there.

Glad you've got my back, TT

Review of Giles from one of my best mates who is a Cov fan:

He had a couple of average games as he’s played nearly all the games this season. mccallam is decent so it’s a tough call between them, especially if we play a back 4 as I don’t think he’s a LB. He played in the front 3 on Wednesday and was v. good. Played LWB today and was immense.

I think he's going to have a decent career at Championship level in the manner of Scott Malone

From the weekend:

Matija Sarkic - Shrewsbury Town, League One

Played against Charlton at home and was unlucky to concede after EEL wrongfooted him by stumbling into the path of the ball and deflecting it into the net. Shrews equalised in the last minute with a penalty. 1-1.

Austin Samuels - Bradford City, League Two

Played a full game in a 1-0 defeat at home to Carlisle but only had the one chance, a shot that he hit off a defender which ricocheted back off him for a goal kick.

Rafa Mir - S.D. Huesca, La Liga

Played an hour of his team's 3-3 draw at Granada. Played no part in his team's two goals while he was on, but then his replacement Shinji Okazaki scored the third with a brilliant chip over the keeper.

Leo Campana and Jordao - Famalicao, Portuguese Primeira Liga

Both started a league game together for what I think is the first time, against Sporting Lisbon no less. Campana got an hour but did little, while Jordao played 83 minutes during which he floated in a beauty of a cross for Famalicao's first. Pedro Goncalves had a lively game, scoring the opener and getting sent off late on. 2-2.

Christian Herc - MFK Karvina, Czech Premier League

Played 66 minutes as his team won 1-0 at his former club Plzen.

Ruben Vinagre - Olympiakos, Greek Superleague

Made his first start in a while but only played the first half of a 4-1 win.

Connor Ronan, Leo Bonatini and Toti Gomes - Grasshoppers, Swiss Challenge League

Another full game for Gomes and Ronan and Leo were subbed on after 65 minutes in a 2-0 win. Leo almost scored with a cheeky backheel that went just wide.

On as sub: Ennis came on for the last half hour in a 1-1 draw against Crewe.

Unused subs: Giles, Sanderson

Not in squad: Pardington

No game: Smith, Wang.

From the weekend and this midweek:

Matija Sarkic - Shrewsbury Town, League One

Two games and two clean sheets in wins at leaders Hull and 4th-placed Lincoln. Got down well to make a good reaction save from point blank range last night.

Dion Sanderson - Sunderland, League One

Came on for the last 15 minutes at the weekend then started last night and played the full game in a 1-1 draw with Wimbledon.

Niall Ennis - Burton Albion, League One

Unused sub at the weekend but played the full game in last night's 2-1 defeat at Ipswich.

Austin Samuels - Bradford City, League Two

Unused sub at the weekend but then started last night and his good work in beating his man and firing a shot across goal made the keeper fumble into the path of a team mate who scored. Subbed on 69 and finished 1-1.

Terry Taylor - Grimsby Town, League Two

Played 57 minutes vs Mansfield in a 1-1 draw but then was dropped to the bench as an unused sub last night.

Rafa Mir - S.D. Huesca, La Liga

Dropped to the bench at the weekend and only came on for the last few minutes, but came back with a bang in the cup yesterday by bagging a hattrick

Three tap-ins effectively, but they all count:

Leo Campana and Jordao - Famalicao, Portuguese Primeira Liga

Campana got a full game and Jordao came on at half time in a 2-1 cup defeat at Rio Ave at the weekend.

Christian Herc - MFK Karvina, Czech Premier League

Played 69 minutes and the 46 minutes in two draws.

Ruben Vinagre - Olympiakos, Greek Superleague

Made his first start in a while but only played the first half of a 4-1 win.

Connor Ronan, Leo Bonatini and Toti Gomes - Grasshoppers, Swiss Challenge League

Ronan and Gomes got a full game in a 3-1 defeat at the weekend, while Bonatini was subbed with 15 left. They got back to winning ways midweek, though, with a 2-1 win: Gomes was the only one of the trio to keep his place, with a full game, while Leo and Ronan were both second half subs.

Unused sub: Giles

Not in squad: Pardington, Vinagre
