I guess on some level you had to know that Howe's schtick would eventually wear thin.

I think that's unfair. Their squad isn't deep enough for a CL run and the team they put out today is 6 short of their best 11, plus either Isak or Wilson as their first choice sub

Nuno managed our squad far better than Howe did, and we had more games.

Fuck him.

Their built mainly on their running power with quality sprinkled in, plus being handy from set pieces. Joelinton and Almiron are functional players but not going to win you games on their own, the same Willock and Longstaff. Looking at the lineup they didn’t have any quality sprinkled in and Gordon shoehorned up front.

CL and EL completely different. We were happy making 5 or 6 changes for some games whereas the CL you’ve got to go full strength to have a chance of getting a result.

As I said above, Newcastle are all about running whereas under Nuno we covered the least ground in the league.

It's all relative though isn't it!

Also we were able to field weaker teams against the likes of Crusaders and Pyunik (in August!) but we didn't/couldn't against Torino, Braga, Besiktas etc.

And that was Nuno's way of managing it too wasn't it? Maybe Howe should adapt his gamestyle?

I'm just really tired of hearing the sympathy for Newcastle and Howe, they're vile and the way the cheat and who they are owned by, they can fuck off.

I was purely stating that’s why they are struggling. Not justifying it.

That wasn’t Nuno managing anything, that was just how we played. We also had a freak run of no injuries (contact or otherwise) which then reverted to the mean straight after

We did make changes for those games though.
Just had a quick glance and we played the same team in both legs against Torino (for example) I'm pretty sure the theme was that we didn't tinker too much between our European games and Prem games, but can't be arsed to check as TT has just told me I'm wrong.

Well I remember we made changes (and I checked).

But that style meant we were able to stay fitter and reduce how much rotation was necessary, that's good management clearly.

Picking a strategy that tires and injures your players particularly when you have a small squad isn't good management is it?

It’s how they play FFS!! Are they supposed to completely change how they play and what’s been successful because they over achieved and qualified for a competition they weren’t ready for?

Not "completely change", but yes, you adapt to give yourself the best opportunity you can for success.

That's good management.

Flogging your players hard and long week on week and then moaning when they get injured isn't.

And yet Coady, Joao, Neves, Dendoncker, Jonny, Doherty, Patricio, Traore, Raul, Saiss and Jota all played over 50 games.....

6 of them replaced pre season friendlies and we had a 3 month break.

This is just nonsense. And half of them aren’t even muscle injuries anyway!

It's common sense, far from nonsense.

As for the "pre season friendlies" Crusaders I grant you, but if you think the games against Torino were pre season friendlies or that traveling to Armenia wouldn't be knackering I'm not sure what to say.

Oh and Wilson, Almiron and Targett are all out with muscle injuries, Manquillo and Isak with Groin strains...

various pro Newcastle journalists pre Doortmund at home game were talking about blowing the opposition away and that it wasn’t just about getting out the group but going much further.
That’s fine but when it’s obvious that you’re incapable of fighting on all fronts you need to take it back.
