Special. He thought the goal had been given so thought he was confirming it was onside or at least that's the official version. He's watching one game and also has an assistant.
Two thoughts occur

1) How the bloody fuck does that happen in the first place?
2) Once they realise the goal hasn't been given why the bloody fuck don't they correct the situation.

Absolute incompetence of the very highest order.

Sounds like a cop out to me. They made the wrong call but have made themselves look ever more stupid by making up some bullshit excuse. Even on the commentary (can’t remember who said it, Neville maybe) at the first freeze frame said that it was only Romero’s trailing leg playing him on which wasn’t enough and that Diaz was offside. He obviously wasn’t but from that angle he jumped to a conclusion, England probably did exactly the same and doesn’t want to admit he was wrong. No way on earth would the PGMOL openly admit to “we didn’t know what was going on” but I’d wager they’d rather take that than “we got it wrong” given the amount of apologies they’re throwing out lately.

That Curtis Jones red followed by the offside has got to be two of the worst decisions I’ve ever seen in the same game.

Offside is shambolic yes, Jones red card falls into harsh but can see the logic behind the red.
Excessive force and Bissouma shin is visibly seen bending, whether it’s accidental is irrelevant unfortunately.

Yes they are watching the game continue. They must see what follows (like a free kick) and should immediately be screaming at the referee to re-stop the game and award a goal. The fact that there’s a deputy there watching it all too and not speaking up makes the whole scenario even more ludicrous.

I agree with Micah Richards that the image that was on the screen when the ref got to it was wrong. Instantly saying "look how bad that is" on a freeze frame.
I'm in the can see why it's given camp. He is unlucky but if that was a player against us I would be screaming for a red (if it was one of ours I would be using every defence possible to say it wasn't...)

Jota was equally unlucky and stupid. 1st yellow wasn't even a foul but to dive in like he did when on that yellow is fookin daft. Giving the ref the opportunity to card him.

We really need the audio for this one. I can’t make sense of it. All the others we hear them going through the process, we’re they all working in silence?

Just get replaced with the same though don't they.

Offside mistakes can be sorted. The new automated system takes human error out of it.

From what I have read they somehow didn't see the defender playing him on.
How, not a clue as he attempts to stop the pass.
Just concentrated on the defender right next to Diaz

Edit: My news was old and made up news. Standard procedure here...ignore me

No, what has been said is that they did all the checks, saw it was onside, then gave the reply "check complete".
Ref didn't hear anything telling him to overturn the decision, so stuck with the onfield decision of offside.
It's a flawed system, other sports have very clear language so there is no confusion. It should be "check complete, no goal" or "check complete, decision overturned, award the goal".

Or just bin the whole lot off as it is fundamentally flawed as a system...

Don't bin it off, as Kenny pointed out there is now semi-automated technology - we need to keep moving in that direction. It's frustrating, but no one can seriously say it was better before when we would've had 10x more wrong decisions.

Was just the stuff I was seeing last night. A lot of noise around it yesterday cheers for the clarification 👍

We didn’t though. These idiots are getting it wrong just as much and the system is being used to protect themselves. We have even had binary yes/no offside utterly wrong and still standing.

It’s not the system. It’s the officials

Yesterday was flagged offside, without VAR it was still the wrong call. You'd see 10x more of these without VAR, just watch a few games lower in the leagues (not aimed at you).

Hence I think we actually agree, the human element is the issue right now, so why I think we need to embrace the technology/AI side instead.

I watched Brighton's game in the Europa League last week and the ref managed to miss two absolutely stonewall penalties for them. Fortunately VAR was there to right the error as it does far more than its critics would ever admit, much as it has more or less eliminated diving for a penalty (because what's the point).

If I buy a state of the art MacBook and manage to install a load of malware on there because I haven't got a clue how the Internet works, it doesn't mean I've bought a shit computer and I should go back to Windows XP.

Embrace away. Simple fact is it won’t improve. Ever. Unless the PGMOL officials are all replaced. They are appalling.

Hence we agree? "embrace the technology/AI side instead" meaning take the human error out the system.

And general point, I don't think they are corrupt though some decisions can make anyone emotionally doubt that, they are just faliable like any human - no one can say they haven't made a mistake at work, this is just very public.

I think it's a cultural issue at the PGMOL (similar to how some airlines crashes were due to junior pilots not wanting to challenge a superior), until that's fixed I don't think we'll see much improvement.
