The contentious part Andy is that's not even being looked at if they hadn't spent the 2 minutes previous trying to work out whether Watkins had flicked the ball on and at what point it had hit Ings' arm. If the ball had dropped to Ings in an obvious onside position and he'd tapped it in they wouldn't have looked at it

Doesn't mean it wasn't an infringement though, villa shouldn't get a free pass because none of the officials noticed something.

It feels like the argument is that because the officials didn't notice something until they were half way through the process then it shouldn't get called. An infringement is an infringement, regardless of when it gets spotted.

If we get to a point where officials start ignoring clear infringements visible in VAR play backs we'll be in an even worse position.

You are missing the point by a substantial distance

I'm not sure I can.

You are advocating 3 minute+ checks for all goals. Villa's looked dodgy on a couple of levels, neither of which were the reason it was ruled out, without that you have a 10 second check and the game carries on. There is no way that block even gets noticed otherwise. If you are disallowing that yesterday, ignoring whether or not it should or shouldn't have been then you are advocating a post mortem on every goal from every angle going back essentially to when the team who scored the goal won the ball. If that's what you want then that's your prerogative, but in the eyes of most the game slowly dies in front of us

Championship defending, did a single Brentford player even challenge for the ball??

That 3+ minute check happens regardless of Ramsey being offside. The actual infringement was decided pretty quickly as it was obvious.

To counter, are you saying teams should be able to commit infringements but get away with it if no one notices it?

Still missing the point...I'm done

Are you saying every single infringement is picked up currently?
Of course not, but what people are saying is that they want officials to actively ignore infringements they do see via VAR.

Where on earth do you draw the line between what officials are allowed to call and what they're not allowed to call?

I'm not proposing that we micro analyse every single goal, that would be crazy. What I am saying is that if something previously unseen presents itself through a VAR playback it simply can't be ignored.

There would still need to be a reason for VAR to be invoked in the first place, be it offside, suspected hand ball etc.

It was a clear infringement that they should have picked up live or in 20 seconds. The fact they didn’t is because they are useless. That’s not my fault or mean it should be ignored.

At least we all agree there was an infringement. Which is all I ever referred to

Don't agree with this. You've argued all along that the infringement if it exists comes from Ramsey being offside, not the block itself. VAR isn't picking that up in 20 seconds, they won't even look at it.

Have a look at my signature then ask that again...
It's a blight on football that was supposed to stop endless debate about contentious decisions. It hasn't, it has added to it. Officials are not flawless, adding another level of flawed officialdom isn't helping the game.
Where do I draw the line? When the ref blows his whistle and makes a call.

Exactly, officials aren't flawless. In this scenario VAR (which I don't like by the way) helped them spot something they'd all missed. The fundamental thing here is, they ended up making the correct call.

If we could VAR back in the box I would, but that isn't happening.

The solution for me would be to scrap VAR - genuinely happier without it. Will never trust the goons who officiate our leagues to use it wisely. Only takes away from my experience in the ground. That said, they’re applying it much more quickly and not nit picking like complete kill joys in La Liga, so that would be a start.

Just imagine we got to the FA Cup Final and score that goal as a winner. Probably the highlight of my (Wolves watching disclaimer ;)) life. Celebrate like mad with my kids. Then, 3 minutes later… If it were the other way round and someone pointed that ‘block’ out hours later I wouldn’t be up in arms either. Fckin hate hate hate VAR.

Yeah he’s offside and interfers with play by blocking him. Next time don’t stand offside and you’ll get away with it. I feel the correct decision was made, it’s really that simple

Standing in an offside position isn't an offence in itself. Cavani ran into HIM so a penalty?
