I've watched that fire as part of my HSE training, took about 8 minutes from start of flames to completely engulfing a whole stand with people on fire.

It was horrific as it was quick, I doubt most people in the stadium realised how serious it was until too late. Many fire safety measures have come about from that as a result, including our own Waterloo Road stand being condemned.

The bloke just calmly walking on the pitch completely engulfed in flames is something I wish I never, ever saw.

How extensive of a coverup are we talking here

We played a semi at Hillsborough a few years earlier v Spurs and the same crushing was happening that day, the commanding officer that day opened the crush barriers and more than likely saved lives. In 1989 they didn't and then weaponised their pals in the media to blame football supporters for their catastrophic failings.

If you can get it over there get yourself a copy of The Truth by Phil Scraton. Every football fan should read it.

Secretary of the club was challenged about the safety of the Leppings Lane terrace and in particular that tunnel after Spurs v Wolves and said “bollocks - nobody died”.

It's in every fire warden training course

There’s footage on twitter of Newcastle fans in the lepping lane end yesterday coming close to being crushed

20 years or so of court battles to find out the truth and get the man in charge that day charged.
Possibly the worst day for English football, with the Bradford fire second.
Both covered on live tv, but think they cut away from the cameras on the hillsborough one, they didn’t with the Bradford one, it’s on YouTube, dickheads celebrating on the pitch while the stands burning and people are dying.

Bit unfair initially they were singing when they didn’t realise the severity and that was those by the other side of the pitch once it becomes apparent that people are in serious trouble the atmosphere changes.

Everyone coming through the middle tunnel with loads of empty seats to the sides. The lower tier of that stand will never be safe. It needs to be flattened and started again

Everyone I know who went to a semi final at Hillsborough prior to 89 said it was unsafe a lot of my mrs family were there with Coventry in 1987. Big difference in 89 was the organisation outside the ground on leppings lane.
Apparently in semi finals before you had to show your ticket before even walking down the street to the stand to prevent a crush outside the ground none of that was done in 89. The biggest of all was not blocking off the central tunnel.
I think the gold commander was different to, to previous years also and he had zero football knowledge.

I dunno, half the stands on fire, and they’re showing off for the cameras, dancing and celebrating

The other difference is the lower leppings was one terrace in 1981. In the interests of “safety” it was divided into six pens by ten foot fences to stop lateral movement crowd surges. Of course, those fences meant no bugger could move sideways to get away from pens 3 and 4

Must admit, I didn't realise it was still dodgy on safety grounds, madness it's not been sorted out by now.

What, and spend money on ~preventive maintenance~? The audacity to suggest such a thing, I tell ya.

Is it just me or is Kai Havertz really, really bad?

Robert Jones our incompetent ref from NYE v Man Utd unable to spot the most obvious handball by Kai Havertz.

He's not what Chelsea think he is.

He was genuinely amazing for Leverkusen but has never been given the same role since he moved. I have no idea what he's doing on the penalty, mind! And Shite Kepa should have saved it.

Chelsea are not great but how do you defend the things City do, honestly?

They just make everything look so easy.

Lot of work for Potter to do, Chelsea look pretty poor, will he get enough time?

City are in one of those moods where they’ll blow anyone away. Even still Chelsea look lost. Unfortunately Potter might be better suited to clubs that allow him time to develop.
