Typical Man U performance by England. Played well against 11 men but a shambles and stale performance after half-time. Flattered by the third goal that papered over a lot of cracks.
Bellingham was class

It was a friendly and we were 2-0 up already against ten men, calling the second-half a shambles is very over the top. An actual second-half shambles would be Wolves in our last game!

He is bad for Man United but is it just me who disapproved of them booing Maguire? Unwarranted jeering when playing for his country, reminds me of the fairweather fans I see showing up at Molineux for our cup games and then booing the players. Southgate is right to criticise it.

It's a bloody disgrace booing a player who is playing for your team. I'm no great fan of Maguire but I'm not sure what he's done wrong to warrant being booed, played a bit crap? Unfortunately there is and has always been a sizable group of people who follow football who are moronic scumbags.

Ireland played Lithuania last night and only just managed to win 1 - 0 . We , as has been the case for quite some time , lacked a creative influence , as plain as the eye could see .
Connor Ronan was part of the this senior squad for the first time ever . He did not make the match squad on either day ( Belgium last Saturday ) . That is the Stephen Kenny way , he invites you in first , you sit it out first time around and then you get a chance .
If Connor gets his chance he might just fill that role , or at least contribute to filling it . It's gaping right now .

Used to happen all the time at the old Wembley. Normally Spurs players by all other fans of London clubs, when only about 30k turned up for England Internationals.

Going to watch England and taking club rivalries into it is pathetic. Tbf to Maguire, just like Pickford in the main he's been decent for England even though at club level he's been ropey for a couple of years

I thought Maguire got booed because he cupped his ears to England fans

The blokes a grade A moron but I don't agree with booing your own.

It's a rare phenomenon, at least in my life time for players to perform better for England than they do for their club, Southgate deserves a lot of credit for that. Pickford and Maguire definitely fall into that category.

Anderton
Vassell
Welbeck
Butt

Arguably Platt and Owen at points too.

Crouch's goal record for England is miles better than at any of his clubs (although there's a lot of padding against awful teams).

Assuming no injuries etc, which is fanciful, what would be your 23 for the winter?

Ramsdale, Pickford, Pope

TAA
, James, Chilwell, Shaw

Stones, Maguire, Guehi, Tomori

Rice, Bellingham, Phillips, Henderson

Foden, Sterling, Saka, Mount, Sancho, Grealish

Kane, Calvert-Lewin

Those in italics would be the players most at risk.

I'd expect Dean Henderson to go if he gets a move elsewhere in the summer, most likely instead of Pope.

I'd expect Mings to go over Tomori, which is laughable, but there we go. I'd take Dier, Kilman, Godfrey, Chalbah, Webster, White and Konsa over Mings too, but what do I know.

I wouldn't be surprised if Jordan Henderson falls off a cliff soon - I can see Klopp phasing him out quickly. I'm a big fan of Jacob Ramsey, but would expect it to come round too soon for both him and Bellingham to go. Ditto with Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott at this stage, unless they explode under Klopp. Perhaps Gallagher instead, or utilise Mount as the fourth central midfield option which gives you another attacking option, where the depth is really quite frightening.

For me, it is time to move on from Walker and Trippier at RB, even though both are still very good. Trent and James are amongst the best players in the world - they have to go.

No real preference between Calvert-Lewin, Abraham, Toney, Ings or Watkins as the second out and out striker option behind Kane as in all likelihood they won't be used. I'd take DCL at his best, but he's been off that for quite some time. Rashford has been shite for a long time now and shouldn't be near the squad as either a wide or central option.

Fair, but that's about it isn't it? 5 or 6 players over 30 years, there have been probably that many under Southgate's tenure alone.

There have been a hell of a lot of players that have been the opposite over the years, Gerrard and Lampard were never as good for England as they were for their clubs, likewise with Rooney, Scholes, etc that doesn't really seem to happen now.

Boly on the bench for Ivory Coast tonight be interesting to see if he gets on and how he does
From what I saw when Boly came on his role appeared to be, receive the ball from the goalkeeper and then spanner it upfield so England could regain possession.

Pickford, Pope, Ramsdale

James, Alexander-Arnold, Walker, Chilwell, Shaw, White, Stones, Maguire, Coady

Henderson, Bellingham, Rice, Phillips, Mount, Gallagher

Kane, Sterling, Foden, Grealish, Saka

I think Coady could be in trouble. Smaller squad than the Euros so difficult to select him on being a good squad fit alone

Isn't it 26 again? Sure I heard this week they were discussing it again.

This is what I think he'll take, I wouldn't agree with a couple of them

Pickford, Ramsdale, Pope

Walker, TAA, James, Maguire, Stones, White, Chilwell, Shaw, Coady

Rice, Henderson, Bellingham, Phillips, Mount

Kane, Watkins, Foden, Sterling, Saka, Grealish

23 as it stands but they do change their mind a lot...

I think Coady will go just because of the influence he clearly has within the group. Let's face it, you always have players who never get on the pitch in a tournament. Happened to Keown in both 1998 and 2002.

Yep that's my thinking with Coady. Southgate loves his influence behind the scenes and in training. He'll go unless his form absolutely falls off a cliff.

From your 23 we only differ on Gallagher/Watkins. I think he takes the 2nd striker, and if Gallagher goes back to Chelsea for next season he may not get that much football

If DCL goes back to his form from the last two seasons, I'd probably take him. But couldn't possibly on current form.

The other strikers just aren't good enough IMO, I'd never want to pick them, even if Kane was injured.

Thinking about it, JWP may have nudged in front of Phillips currently

I'd have a massive problem with playing JWP in a midfield two (it'll surely be a two, whether we play a back three or four) against anyone decent. He'd be fine against group stage dross but not much else. Runs like an old woman/Andy Mutch.
