Live Match Discussion: 2020/21

I still believe there is a place for VAR, I do agree that it's implementation has been shambolic.

That's why the difference between the tech and the way it is used is important

Before its introduction I was indifferent about it. I didnt really have an opinion either way.

I just think now, that PGMOL have murdered it to such an extent it'll never be accepted. Its just too toxic for a great many match going supporters even if Riley's cartel was removed from its operation.

Plus, for all of the finger pointing about how PGMOL have misrepresented VAR we still have issues such as VAR ignoring the clear and obvious penalty encroachment/GK off his line from Sevilla players in the QF. The Bellingham goal the other night and im sure I've read articles saying wait times in Germany and Spain have gotten longer rather than shorter.

It all contributes to flaws with its use in football, regardless of operator.

They’ve had 3 very marginal calls go their way in the last 2 games

I was talking more about the fact that they conceded last minute goals in both rather than some wanker in a porta-cabin miles away.

The examples you cite are 100% operator error.

I see the technology and the operators as two distinct things.

I am aware they operate in unison.

The issue is the way the technology has been used, not the technology itself. The technology doesn't have to be used the way it is, it is the way it has been chosen to be used that is the problem.

Things which VAR miss are not things the technology has missed, but things people using the technology have missed ergo, operator error.

Does that make it clear enough for you?

The examples you cite are 100% operator error.

So if its proven that across competitions and countries that we don't currently have the personnel to operate the technology the technology must be shelved until a time they demonstrably can?

How would you even judge such a thing?

You could say that about refs prior to VAR

Anyway, expecting any system with human interaction to be 100% accurate is unrealistic.

Nothing is 100%. It doesn't need to be thrown away but it does need to be tweaked.

And it's not impossible to do that. Throwing it all away would be silly.

To go one step further, the offside rule didn't have to be ruled on the way it is. The tech makes it possible but it didn't have to be this way, the powers that be stated what they wanted offside to be and how it must be adjudicated on.

They could also have said that any video referral must take no more than 20 seconds, otherwise stay with the on field calls.

This is how the tech has been implemented, not the tech itself

Two goals in five minutes shared between Man U and Burnley after half time.

3-1 in the end, little bit harsh on Burnley as not a huge difference between the two.

Awful defending and keeping gifts Liverpool the lead.

What's happened to Josh DaSilva at Brentford? I haven't seen him for ages

Crocked for the season (most like) along with Rico Henry.

Brentford turning into the new Derby County. Bottled it last season and doing the same again this season by the looks.
