Live Match Discussion: 2020/21

If the U21 coach is doing it properly, then it a fair comment. If the players are developing as they should be then the best ones will be moved to the senior squad thus weakening the U21s. That has happened, this you cannot deny, therefore making the task of winning with the U21s much more difficult. Therefore it is pretty impossible to be successful in developing the U21 players into senior players and at the same time winning (meaningless) tournaments. If you don't want to see that then that's up to you.

Is the Wolves U23 coach doing a good job if they are winning the U23 league if none of those players are getting into the senior squad or is he doing a good job if the U23s are struggling because a lot of their better players have moved up to senior level? Which success would you prefer?

If "The England U21 team is the utterly impossible job." isn't moaning then I don't know what is. He has a team which is plenty talented enough he's using this as a smokescreen to deflect from that
He played Eze right wing in one of the games. Like, parked out on the touchline!

Playing Tom Davies ahead of Curtis Jones is something that has also really pissed me off (amongst many things)

Your 2nd sentence is fair enough, I don't know as I haven't watched the U21s as I really don't care about whether they win a meaningless tournament or not. Are any of them good enough to break into the senior team?

This would have some merit if a) they weren’t already good players before they joined his team b) he was actually coaching them and making them better.

Best players going to the senior team is the same for every nation. And is surely a bigger deal for smaller nations with a smaller pool, which certainly you would class Switzerland as.

It's like for like with other sides I've mentioned above the 3 players Portugal are without

False equivalence. A club U23 manager is set to work with a fixed number of players and has to replace those who have moved up with U18s. An International one can pick the cream from across the country of the same age to replace them Boothroyd is losing games to Switzerland with a squad which includes Aarons, Godfrey, Smith Rowe, Jones, McNeil, Eze and Hudson Odoi.

He got 1 point from 3 games last time (under 2 years ago) with the squad below.

Even that side he's managed to make a mess of selecting and that's before you get to his 'tactics'.

The fact he's blaming others outside of himself shows what a weak person he is.

This is hilarious.

How you can have an opinion on a manager and a squad of players without seeing them play is beyond me.

How on earth was he "hoping" to have Mount? He's played every senior England game now for ages, and he knew the senior team were playing at the same time.

It'd be like David Platt in 2002 hoping to have Ashley Cole rather than him going to the World Cup.

Bellingham, Saka and Greenwood are the only ones he could have had a reasonable expectation to have, but hasn't. Of those one is injured and pulled out of the senior squad another he did pick but got a Man Utd International Break injury.
The likes of Mount, Rice, Foden and James are arguably in the senior sides first 11

From what I have seen from the u21 team in the last few years , albeit highlights , it’s how AB has used the talent he has that is the biggest issue. His set ups suck

But it's not like this wasn't predictable. To pick an example, Rodgers failed and failed hard at Reading, he didn't have the players to do what he wanted to do and he got the bullet. But you could see he was a good coach with the right ideas.

Boothroyd was someone who'd been sinking for years, sank literally as low as you can in the Football League, always played absolutely shit football and then got this job because he was mates with the Technical Director. Ridiculous state of affairs.

Spawny fucker might actually qualify. Tallest dwarf contest behind Portugal in this group.

Blessing in disguise no way were they winning the whole thing. Qualifying would have masked over some huge crevices and probably meant Betty keeping his job.

Worst manager in any level of international football. I bet the bloke running Bhutan has more tactical nous.
I think Stephen Constantine once managed them, he was Colin Lee’s assistant at Millwall one season :D

Very sleepy start by Chelsea but the shit haven’t taken advantage. When Chelsea wake up I’m sure normal service will be resumed.
