Live Match Discussion 2018/19

Personally think they’ll come highest out of the 3 promoted. But the PL is going to be seriously tough next season especially if Newcastle get taken over. Top 6, then you’ll have cluster of clubs behind with serious finance. Gut feeling is Villa will come between 12-15th certainly don’t think they’ll go down.

Bottom 6 for me, bang average squad that needs a major overhaul, with or without the loan players staying. Can see them binning Smith off at Christmas if it looks like they're in trouble (which would be crazy, but hey ho)
Keeper - OK, though isn't going to win them many games
Right Back - Don't have a competent one
Left Back - As above
Centre half - Mings looks decent if not Chester is ok
Centre half - nobody if Tuanzaybe goes
Right Wing - Adomah not good enough, but ok squad player
Left Wing- El Ghazi decent enough
Centre Mid - Whelan, Jedinak probably gone, Hurrahaine too weak agaisnt better sides
Centre Mid- McGinn a player, not going to happen but I'd have him at our place.
Centre Mid- Grealish I don't like him, but he draws fouls in important places in the PL he'll either be a card magent or a decent player to open up defences.
Forward - Got nothing if Abraham doesn't stay.

I'd say they are reasonably well placed given the money, but top half is a stretch too far.

Can put all the clubs into various categories next season.

Title contenders
Man City
Liverpool
Spurs Maybe

CL contenders
Arsenal
Man Utd
Chelsea maybe

Very little threat of relegation but can’t rule it out
Everton
Wolves
Leicester
Watford
West Ham
Newcastle (if taken over)

Genuine threat of relegation but should be ok
Palace
Southampton
Villa
Bournemouth

Serious threat of relegation
Burnley
BHA
Norwich
Sheff Utd

Completely agree. Villa will finish higher than Norwich or the Blades.

If you feel like it check the cybertosis thread. It mirrors what you think basically

So from your list they have an OK keeper, Grealish and McGinn. They aren't well placed at all. El Ghazi is on loan, as well as Mings and Abraham.

Since February they’ve been the best team in the league, key thing is not to reinvent the Wheel like Fulham did. Key is buying Mings and Keeping Grealish fit for about 30 games. 6 quality signings should be enough for them to be ok next season which they should manage.

Exactly. Our loan players were always planned signings, and always likely to make the step up. There’s no guarantee they can actually get all of them. And our high performing championship players like Douglas, Cavaleiro and Costa, who got relegated to squad players/sold, are having very little/no impact in the PL yet are better than what they have.

Roman Saiss got dropped down to a squad player. There’s no way Whelan and Jedinak can do any sort of job for them. They might even be out of contract.

Even if they operate a squad our size they need 8 first team players and that’s if they keep Taylor, Elmo, Chester, Adomah, Kodjia, and Hourihane as backup. They aren’t young either so they can’t hope to have as reliable an availability rate as is either.

As in having a season akin to ours is highly unlikely because of the points you’ve raised above. But still think they’ll keep and recruit a squad good enough to survive with space to spare.
But I’ll guarantee you there’s a lot of Villa fans who’ll seriously think they can emulate what we did this season next season.
As I’ve said before their arrogance has got worse in the last 3 years.

Tammy Abraham will look out of his depth in the Prem - he's a tap-in merchant. Won't get anywhere near as many opportunities (or penalties) in a higher division.

They do have some money to spend of course but they will need to spend a huge sum just to get that squad to be vaguely competative in the PL IMO. Their squad needs millions to bring it up to Palace standards let alone Spurs or Chelsea (I heard one already tonight talking top 4 next season!!). Grealish will be interesting. He clearly has talent but I am still not convinced by him especially at this much higher level. I thought he did very little today and have found that often when I watch him. Abraham is not the answer for them at this level though Mings may do a job even though he is not wanted by Bournemouth

It’s already started on Twitter to, I don’t listen to the WM phone in anymore but it usually shuts down for the summer which will delay them turning the heat up on the Wolves v Villa rivalry which never existed 2 years ago.
But fully expect them to wind it up come August, then pass it off as harmless banter.

3years ago. That game. This picture. I made the decision to scarify for this beloved club. Maybe it’s delayed. I kept my promise! UTV! VTWD!

Didn't realise the fake Dr was also a groundsman. Always thought that the Villa pitch was decent but if he thought that it needed scarifying then who am I to argue with him.

He was at the game and probably a few bob better off now they've reached the promised land.

Great scenes at Union Berlin after getting promoted to the Bundesliga.

What is Micah Richards up to these days? Has he literally just thrown his career away in Villas Reserves?

Yep, still there. Contract runs out next month

I know after being promoted you can get carried away but seen Mings being compared to Van Dijk in places.
