LIVE! Match discussion 2014/15

Right, can HSV and St Pauli not go near relegation next season please? Mid table is fine.

Looking at France, I think football is going to move toward fewer relegations than more.

My youngest has got a ticket for the CL final!

Lucky git!

Been thinking about the euros next year actually, will tickets be stupidly hard to get hold of, as well as expensive?

Dunno. He works with a Chelsea supporter who had bought the CL final ticket before the semi-finals.

Nice! What a fantastic game to go to

If you don't mind going to random games involving the smaller teams it shouldn't be too hard. Getting tickets for the England games would be an absolute nightmare.

Other than the tournament being too big and the group stage being broken (finishing 3rd in a four team group should not be enough to have you progressing, as will be the case for four teams) it should be great stuff. The Euros rarely disappoint and France 98 was a fucking brilliant tournament.

France 98 was the first tournament I was old enough to really appreciate. Brilliant memories of that summer.

That makes me feel old! I can remember going to bed very early for a couple of hours kip and then my dad getting me up to watch the 1978 final. 1982 in Spain was a fairly decent tournament although the second group stage was a bag of nails of an idea. The Brazil Italy game was absolutely phenomenal, as was the Germany France semi. I can remember everyone wanting Italy to win the final just to piss Schumacher off for that awful challenge on battiston.
1986 was the reverse. After Diego and the Falklands we suddenly were quite happy for Germany to win the final. They didn't, but it was a belting game. Italia 90 was an alright tournament. USA 94 was pretty rubbish as I recall.

I vaguely remember watching us play Ireland at Euro 88, but Italia 90 was my first ever proper tournament. Objectively it actually wasn't very good, full of sterile games, Argentina progressing all the way to the final despite being a horrific team, same stupid 24 team structure as Euro 2016 will be, but as it was my first I look back on it fondly. Plus England did well and Bully was playing for them, at the age of 9 you don't ask much more than that.

Since then:

Excellent: France 98, Euro 2000, Euro 2008, Brazil 2014
Good: Korea/Japan 2002, Euro 2004, Germany 2006, Euro 2012
Poor: Euro 92, USA 94, Euro 96
Worse than applying Deep Heat to your ballsack: South Africa 2010

Don't be hating on 2010!

It was a pretty dire tournament to be fair. I am struggling to remember many memorable matches. Ghana v Uruguay maybe. After that I am really struggling to think of anything. The final was absolute garbage and might as well have just been over fifteen rounds and held at Caesar's Palace.

That tournament woke me up to the sport. I will always love it. Tshabalala's goal is my best football moment I had no personal stake in. Plus it made for a decent highlight vid:

italy 90 was dull as hell..defensive and not many goals..one of the worst for me..i saw a few games in 1978 when i was just 3, but 1982 was my first real tournament when i tried to watch a lot

I actually wasn't going to be allowed to watch the final in 98 as it was a school night but I threw a temper tantrum for the ages and got to stay up. Result.

I remember being absolutely gutted when Croatia went out. Suker, Prosinecki, Jarni, Boban, Bilic, Stimac, Simic... That was some team. Dirty fookers but so exciting to watch.
