Landmark Klaxon!

If I'm staying over then not getting up that early! - need a bit of time in the morning as not really an issue whatever time I get back down here

Use the App pop in what time you want to park until and works out the charges inc the £1 for the overnight stuff. Simple

O'Neills was alright. Good pint of Guinness, always a decent Friday/Saturday night.

Just need advice as to what App & where to get it then - & more importantly which street the car park is. Please remember that I was born at a time when many had to go out to a phone box to make a call - we didn't as were vaguely posh so had a landline in the house, though it was a party line (some of you won't remember what these were :icon_biggrin:)

The car park we use is Fold Street. Down towards Marston's, it's about two minutes from the Litten (all downhill too)

I'll show you all the shizzle in the pub.

Thanks - in Redwings on Saturday, so will just shove it round the back of that.

Probably cheaper options, but won't have to go too far on Sunday to get it back.

Debenhams closing.

Not like Wolverhampton Council to back totally the wrong horse.

Yep, pretty much the final nail in wolves city centre, beaties wont remain in it's current format, all town centres are struggling but we seem to be floundering more than we should be.

The office block cgi they touted around is quite frankly ridiculous in terms of affordability and the west side 'development' will amount to little more than another pipe dream I'm afraid

The cities drowning in debt whilst they pursue their own ego trips.

looks like we're hoping the football teams success builds business confidence to do something (anything) to help the town centre. It's dying more daily.

It was.

I went in there once. Generally the store seemed to me to be filled with extremely over-priced goods. Most of the stuff in there was unnecessary. The occasional nice thing, but like I say, overpriced.

In fairness to the council, was it them with debenhams, or the new mander centre owner?

Whilst the Council did try to act as the middle man, it's the Mander Centre owners who actually deal with everything.

Easy to blame the Council though, innit. Some people (not on this board mind) make a brilliant conspiracy theory and blame them for everything, including fires, the state of people's front lawns, the Bhatti brothers, and the price of cheese. They have massive failings for sure (for example, an endless need to faff instead of doing), but some things just aren't under their control.

Not the Council backing these projects though is it?

They didn't choose to build a new department store on land owned privately by someone else, they certainly didn't fund it.

I don't really see what the Council can do, they're not spending their money on failed or inappropriate schemes. Should they deny developers the opportunity to build commercial developments because they'd rather see something else? What if nothing else is proposed then they're left with nothing?

I believe the Westside scheme is now out to tender as well, so you might get more than you're expecting out of that one.

No but encouraging private investment in the city is pretty high on their list and they seemingly fail to deliver.

The office block they built was actually pretty good, however the failings in the proposed office development behind the chubb building are pretty obvious. They have employed the most expensive architect who has designed a building that wont stand up to an economic model. Rents in the town are the lowest in the country.

They are also failing badly with the west side development, whilst putting all their eggs in the i54 site which must be costing a fortune in enabling works, non of which I'm particularly sure improve anything.

We should absolutely be playing on HS2 and looking for regeneration in the city

I do not expect miracles from my council just a level of competence would be pleasing. The Civic Hall fiasco is just sickening, I really have no idea what they are doing there, apart from being ripped off.

There's only so much they can do though surely? I'm not sure how much of a hand they had in attracting Debenhams to begin with but if the market isn't there to support them long term then that's out of their hands. Then that's going to scare off other similar retailers as they'll see it as a sign that Wolverhampton doesn't match their demographic.

As per my previous post, assuming you're talking about the i9 office development, the Council haven't employed anyone to do anything. That's a private development, if the developer believes they can make money from a new office on that site then that's what they're going to propose. Should the Council have denied them planning permission because they'd rather have retail even though there's no potential scheme on the table for that?

The Council aren't proposing or funding any of these schemes, all they can do is facilitate them and hope they bring benefit to the city. I'm sure there are things they could do to incentivise particular types of development but if private investors don't think Wolverhampton has the market to support those uses then it's going to be virtually impossible for the Council to overcome. Sometimes they just have to take what they can get.

The football team doing well, could bring Wolverhampton to a wider audience who've never given us a thought,or had the thought of crap football club crap town,we also seem to be a jokey punchline for being crap, like Wigan,Goole, hull or Middlesbrough that's likely to always be the case

Since the days when it was a bar that had half naked staff #classy
