Just how good were/was/is/are....

The Sex Pistols were fucking great. Yes, the band that could not play is a great trope, but some of the songs are just fucking epic. I defy you to hear the opening riff of Pretty Vacant and not want to bounce around pogoing like a mad bastard.

Filthy Lucre is also a tremendous live album. I still love them after all these years.

absolutely. holidays in the sun is great as well. i'm not a big pistols fan but Lydon/Rotten was an epic front man for their song delivery.
i imagine in the 3 years he was with them the pistols influenced more people into music simply with their attitude than the previous ten years of MOR radio and tedious guitar solos did which definitely pissed a lot of people off.
and i bet he'd be delighted with people still whinging about them today 40 years on and would consider that a job done nevermind his later accomplishments.

Another one who hasn't heard of Boards of Canada and I listen to a LOT of music!

I will give them a go though. Electronica isn't my thing really but you never know until you try.

I think we overdid the background to our posts! I'm sure the idea was background/history and videos
Could have saved myself half and hour with just "The Housemartins".... Videos... :icon_lol:

Hey, if a job's worth doing...

As you well know I love anything Heaton-related. Mind you, even allowing for it being a very high bar (IMO), I listen to The Housemartins way less than I do The Beautiful South or the new Heaton/Abbott stuff. I suppose there's just less of it.

Kenny and I were supposed to be going to see him next week :(

I've done the Housemartins as a stepping stone to progress through The Beautiful South and Pd himself.
I will be mixing it up with other bands as we go, though

Any Oasis fans should tune into Tim Burgess TimsTwitterListeningParty tonight, Be Here Now with members of Oasis, showing some never before seen photo's etc should be fun and a good retrospective, followed ny Matt Johnson running through The The Infected

There's a now an archive page on the website so you can play an album, and view the tweets from the event in real time, and read the artists thoughts/memories/ facts etc as they happened on the night

I'd rather you'd have done the Specials than have f#ckin Happy Hour stuck in my head :)

Well after that lot you can check out some culture
Firstly Ludovico Einaudi

2.5 hours worth of his greatest works here.

He can be a bit samey but his relaxing piano compositions include some wonderful melodies. Probably the best contemporary piano composer .

Secondly Dvorak

Romantic era composer whose largo from the new world symphony was used in the Hovis adverts in the 70s. Personal favourite of mine is the symphony number 8 the third movement in particular.

Classic recording conduced by Herbert von Karajan here.

Borodin next another late 19th century composer. Actually earnt his living as a chemist but responsible for some lovely music

Just three composers, all a little different but all capable of composing bright, vibrate melodic music that lifts the mood and chills you out.

Whoever does one gets to nominate someone else (who has contributed) to start the next one once it's run its course. Or people can volunteer. No jumping in though, wait your bloody turn. And don't pick someone stupidly obscure that no-one has ever heard of.

Might have to start sticking to da rulez (ie someone gets nominated/volunteers) because this is becoming a bit of a mess.

if i have the time i'll get infected on when it kicks off.

also gives me the opportunity again, with apologies, to re-tell how my Dad once surprised me by telling me how much he'd enjoyed my poetry which he'd also shown to a few of his mates and they all thought was brilliant.
what he'd found was the lyrics to The The's heartland which i'd written out in the summer of 86 after getting the single
last time i told this i said they were far less impressed with my later poem, Killing in the name, but that bit was just a joke

I will have some spare time tomorrow so I will do another one then if that's ok?

John Lydon is to Paul Weller what John Paskin is to Raul Jimenez.

Like Lovers Do is a great song.
