Just how good were/was/is/are (Wolves Edition)

Don't think so, Wright didn't play in the semi-final in 1998 and was gone from Arsenal by the time we played them in Jan 1999. Then Richards wasn't here when we played Forest in Sep 1999 and Wrighty played for them.

Opinions about a players ability or worth to Wolves are definitely, in my case anyway, clouded by what you think of them as a person and the perceived amount of effort they put into their Wolves careers. Like Richards and Gray beforehand, I'm sure my judgement on their playing abilities would be slightly different if I hadn't met them.

I'm with DW on Richards - albeit clouded somewhat by his leaving, but them softened by his tragic death - in that he was never quite as good as the hype. He certainly wasn't anywhere near a 'great' for us IMO and after his car crash his injuries and seeming desire to be on the pitch meant I thought he owed us something other than to leave on a Bosman.

Going back to Akinbiyi and Kennedy, again I go with views already expressed although I was amazed we got £5m+ for Ade. I'm sure most fans I know would have been happy to have just got our money back. And yes, the Kennedy goal at Stockport was one of the cleanest strikes you'll ever see. I recall being right behind it [were we on the side?] as he struck it and it was going in from the moment it left his foot.

We were indeed on the side at Stockport and you must have been stood within a few feet of me as I was also right behind it. A truly brilliant goal.

13. Kevin McDonald

Kevin David McDonald (born 4 November 1988) is a Scottish professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Championship club Fulham.

He began his career with Dundee before moving to England to sign for Burnley, for whom he played one season in the Premier League. He spent two full seasons with Sheffield United before moving to Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2013 where he spent three seasons. McDonald signed for Fulham in 2016 and made his full international debut for Scotland in March 2018.

On 14 August 2013 McDonald moved to fellow League One club Wolverhampton Wanderers, signing a three-year contract for an undisclosed fee (reported to be £750,000). After making his Wolves debut as a substitute in a 2–1 win at Bristol City on 17 August 2013, he scored his first goal two weeks later in a 3–1 win at Port Vale on 31 August.

McDonald became a regular starting player in the Wolves' side that set a new League One points record (103) as it won the division. At the conclusion of the campaign, he won both the Fans' as well as the Players' Player of the Season Awards, having been already also named in the PFA's League One Team of the Year.

At Championship level, he remained a regular member of Wolves' team, featuring in every league game as the club missed out on the play-off on goal difference. Over the summer he attracted interest from fellow Championship club Fulham, who reportedly bid for the midfielder after failing to agree a new contract at Wolves. He admitted to being aware of the interest and said "it is obviously a bit unsettling not knowing where you are going to be". He subsequently agreed a new three-year deal at Wolves that was due to run until summer 2018.

Despite his new contract agreement with Wolves, McDonald eventually moved to Fulham after the 2015–16 season, signing for the London club on 22 July 2016 for an undisclosed fee in a three-year deal (with the option of an additional year). He scored his first goal for Fulham in a 2–2 draw with Cardiff City on 20 August 2016.

Ah, the stroller... Was good in League One but SO SLOW

Incredibly one footed too. See Leeds' first goal against us in April 2015, he loses the ball because he's busy turning up his own arse getting it onto his right peg.

He had his qualities and given how Ken wanted us to play, was a good fit. Until his attitude fell off a cliff. Giving interviews to SSN about your contract and only being offered a "very basic rise" is the mark of a prick. Awful in 2015/16 on the whole. Bristol City at home (hauled off at HT and I think his last ever game for us) was up there with the most gutless of performances I've seen in a Wolves shirt and I've seen a lot of shitehawks.

Walks about for Fulham now playing nominally as a DM. Incredibly he doesn't seem to stop much, his tackling has always been terrible. He got something like 15 yellows for them the one season, he's in the Ferguson school of either letting players waltz past him or a lazy foul, nothing else.

It's a shame because his first two years were very good but the memory has definitely been soured of him now. I don't like him as a character (he was always fucking around with Doherty, strange how Doc's attitude improved not long after McDonald left...) and that last season was so poor that it pretty much undoes all the good work. Couldn't even knock five yard passes properly, he'd leave everything short. Just laziness.

Also after the 0-3 defeat to Forest in November 2014, was walking back to the pub with Kenny and Langers and we saw him running up the steps by the subway, obviously heading towards the station. Can't have been much after 5pm. Great attitude. Quickest we ever saw him move.

Scored a couple of nice long range goals but never did enough when we stepped up to Championship level.
Yeah, him and Doc were really close (bumped into them both in Yates after the Rotherham game) and yes, Doc really as come on in leaps and bounds. It started when McDonald left but Nuno, the new girlfriend and the new diet has really helped him too

I honestly don't remember that!

I suppose at least the game had finished. He fecked off to the pub at half time whilst he was at Burnley didn't he?

He certainly did :icon_lol: When they were getting battered by City.

I don't think he's the sharpest knife in the drawer.

I remember the game and accepting that Doc was fucked after 5 mins but not the K-Mac part!

On that Antonio performance....as bad as Doc was, Antonio was brilliant. Not many full backs would have been able to cope with him that day

Pay more attention in future please.

(Yes Antonio was superb)

Obviously the Forest game was in the middle of our horror run (which ended up costing us in the end, on goal difference alone let alone all the defeats) and McDonald never stood up at all during that period. So passive.

He's a good player to have when things are going well, not so much when the chips are down.

Another K-Mac pearler (not at Wolves)...last season Ranieri didn't fancy him at all (probably prefers his midfielders to be quicker than his Nan) and rather than knuckling down and proving him wrong, he sulked away and then when Claudio was binned, straight away started giving interviews about how unfairly he'd been treated. Funnily enough Fulham's results didn't improve when Scotty P brought him back in.

He's a grade A roaster.

Obviously we didn't care because we were getting a decent player for cheapish, but Sheff Utd fans weren't happy with the way he left them.

A shit Dave Jones with ideas above his station.

Grade A wanker.

He gets extra positive points from me as during a Sponsors meal when Paddy was trying to get pics of a few players and couldn't understand why he could only see his own mush on the camera screen, K-Mac ever so politley told him "You have it on selfie mode you dumb fuck"

I think that cancels out at least 2 of his shit performances...
