I'm sorry he's gone because he's an interesting poster and someone who's knowledge and understanding of the game I respect. Having read the exhange that led (supposedly) to the ban, I thought it was unnecessary language to use but nothing out of the ordinary as far as his posting style is concerned. And there in lies the issue. Despite multiple bans, he has been unable or more likely unwilling to adjust the way he interacts with people who's opinion differ from his own.

I'm not too sure on what grounds people can try to defend him really, it was always going to happen eventually. Just a matter of time.

I would question the procedure, which went from "unanimously agreed" to "a couple of people agreed, one last logged in when Rishi Sunak was Prime Minister, and one abstained despite obviously stirring the shit", which isn't a great look.

Nothing against Sam individually, but if she was involved in the decision that's out of order for the reasons highlighted.

No, my point is that the mod/admin team is one down anyway, so arguably light on numbers to make this kind of permanent call.

There's nothing wrong with walking back a decision that you made in good faith that has been shown to be wrong. It's a good thing.

If it were my call:

1) Accept this was a bit hasty, and reduce the ban. Week, two weeks, month, whatever. I can accept he crossed a line, but this is way OTT

2) Recruit at least one new mod ASAP - it's up to Sam whether she wants to post or not and I have no issue with her, but that's a job that isn't being done

3) No more sly leaking of who reports what and fake "abstentions" when it's obvious what you want. If you want to do that, should you really be a mod...

4) Outline exactly to Johnny what will happen next time he goes too far

5) For all parties - draw a line under it all and move on. That means not dredging up crap from years ago that may or may not have happened in a pub

6) Get on with calling Doherty a feckless beardy wanker

But it isn't my call. And since when was I the grown up in the room?

I'm sure it can be sorted and it needs to be as otherwise you're going to lose some highly valued posters for good (not me, although I will be posting less in the very near future).

Doesnt matter, I've been told Johnny has started another forum called ECT 2024.... He's currently enjoying arguing with the several bots already in there.

Does our set piece coach come under this?

Johnny strikes me as someone who always has to push something to the limit and just a little bit more. Sometimes it can be entertaining but other times it’s just boorish. Not sure if he knows he’s doing it or not at times but you can be certain he won’t change. I can see the pros and cons of letting him back but if you do be prepared to have the same debate again and again.

I remember talking to one or two on here in the Royal London a few years ago and someone, I can’t remember who , said the regulars on here “are a good bunch - even Johnny is a nice chap in person”. It’s a shame he behaves differently in front of a keyboard.

I reckon that quote at the end is me :)

Yeah, I've not met Johnny, but someone who wasn't Tredman said the same to me.

Everyone else seems to have had a say so will have mine. Like Wilf there’s reasonable arguments for both sides.

Firstly the straw that broke the camels back, if it’s what is being suggested, seems a bit OTT and uneccessary.

But I don’t agree with how Johnny had behaved to some people/tone of his posts. I just wonder “why are you like this?”, particularly when it’s alledged “he’s great In real life”. Why people have to justify that he is nice in person though is a problem in itself, why are you different in front of a keyboard?

We have all had run ins with him (again seems a bit of a problem!) but I can just see this as the internet with a bunch of strangers and and get over it and think he’s just a little bit weird (internet persona, all I’ve got to go off). But I haven’t had the barrage of abuse that others have, it’s simply been a football related Disagreement. So I can see why others may not agree. I did call out his behaviour to EP once as I thought it was bang out of order (shouldnt really get involved but it wasn’t on IMO and I couldn’t just sit there, even though I have since…) but I was told I didn’t know the backstory and Johnny played the victim.

I don’t know the ins and out of this abuse on PMs and reporting stuff. The idea of abusing someone on PM or reporting post just seems alien to me tbh. Either are weird behaviour to me, just call them out if you feel so strongly or ignore it…

So there seems two camps. Those who he has really pissed off and those who like him personally. I’m not either of those. I’d have no issues him coming back as I think he is a good contributor and I can just ignore the bullshit that comes with it. But people are pissed off and feel very strongly about that! He won’t change though (a shame, but hasn’t previously) so I don’t know if EP, Bear, Dire et al. Could just be civil/ignore each other to make it work

Not sure how much use there is in this thread now. Think we’ve mostly all had our input and it does neither Johnny nor EP any favors to carry on talking about them like they’re not here (I assume Johnny could still lurk, even if he can’t sign up with a different name).

Unless there's been any in between, the last ban was for calling me fucking stupid and thick cunt for posting something in a black country accent

If your first thought when reading that is "grow a pair" or something similar then fair enough, I suppose. But you're on a public forum, not a Whatsapp group with your real life mates

That aside I have "liked" lots of his posts about Wolves and other football stuff since then because, as mentioned by others, he seems like he knows his stuff and I feel like I actually learn from some of his more detailed posts

Backtrack and the clock starts ticking until the next bost-up. Stick with it and (?)
