Jeremy Corbyn

Yes we do spares and repairs for the German Airforce, loads of work gonna be coming in, glad I'm retiring next Friday.

Pop over and say bye before you go Trev, I'm off on the piss at twelve so make it before then mucker.

I'll probably do a tour on Thursday although my badge doesn't get me into your place anymore, I need a gun.

Well let's be honest about it. When any party loses any election its always someone else's fault, never because their policies don't appeal to enough people. See: Labour, election, General 2015.

On the contrary, I completely blame Labour for their own failure this year. It really shouldn't have been hard to at least force the Tories into another coalition at absolute worst, they'd presided over five years of dross. As it was they stood for nothing and got called out for it.

Good answer. Wrong leader, wrong policies, out of touch with the working classes.

I wonder how the election would have turned out if Corbyn had been leader instead of Vanilla Ed

To be fair - also pretty accurate on milliband when the majority of this board felt he was amazing, had a new kind of politics and was about to kick the evil toreez out of power.

I don't think even Ed Milliband thought Ed Milliband was amazing.

Not sure that ever happened. Given that there were a number of people (myself included) who are vehemently anti-Tory and yet didn't vote Labour.

I seem to remember saying his campaign was timid due to fear of the media and that his 'Tory cuts but nicer' approach wasn't exactly electoral dynamite. I was convinced he would win but that was down to quirks of our electoral system and opinion polling rather than any wonderful qualities he had.

Is there any evidence that the government is particularly unpopular though? Or that they dislike the more extreme policies they're putting forward?

Seems to me that the majority of people don't really give a toss about the NHS or the BBC or the vulnerable members of our society. They'll say they do if asked, but I think the Conservatives understand very well that deep down most people are self-interested and don't think about much beyond their front door. Which isn't meant as "isn't everyone who votes Tory evil and stupid" jibe, just a general comment on people's motivations.

You're right a lot of people only care about things that effect them, but the cuts that have been implemented are effecting everyone not just the vulnerable. I see a lot of people moaning about waiting times at doctors and hospitals, so yes, NHS is a concern to people.

3 weeks to get an appointment is about standard now at my GPs. Going back just a few years it was 3-4 days. This is classic far-right economics though - run a public service into the ground then present a private alternative years later. Use your pals in the media to rubbish the sector of choice and throw some scare stories in for good measure. After a few years our poorly educated populous will be 'They're right, the NHS is shit now. Let's have this new model they're offering instead'. Job done.
